We are starting our fundraising campaign. Please read more about us below and consider making a small donation. Every bit helps blind people in our community.

Blind individuals live independent lives and must work to support themselves and their families just like you.

Have you ever wondered what kinds of jobs are attained by people who are blind? Some work for NASA, serve in the House of Representatives, become teachers and lawyers; many work in various blue- or white-collar jobs like you. Blind workers may need some accommodation to complete their assigned tasks. A success story from one of our members will show how the National Federation of the Blind of Arkansas helps blind individuals at every stage of life.

“Theo was 20 months old when he lost his sight. resulting in both eyes being removed.
Shattered dreams and despair led our family to the National Federation of the Blind of Arkansas (NFBAR).

Accessing NFB of Arkansas through social media was easy. They were able to address concerns regarding his education and social needs. NFB of Arkansas connected the family with information about the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that mandates Free Appropriate Public Education in a least restrictive environment. He has successfully completed pre-school and kindergarten in the public-school system with Individual Educational Plan (IEP) via a team involving parents, educators, paraprofessionals, counselors, and therapists.

Theo’s education includes Braille and other nonvisual techniques. NFB of Arkansas also provides information and keeps the family involved and helps them understand current Federal and State legislative issues that could affect his education or social development.
Theo’s growth in reading Braille is supported by Braille books obtained at NFB National and State conventions. Access to free audio books and audio player through the Arkansas Library of the Blind, the National Organization of Parents of Blind Children, camps, and scholarships have all been resources shared with us by NFB of Arkansas. Updates and demonstrations of technology are another example of the support and encouragement provided to members of the National Federation of the Blind.

Theo’s future looks brighter than we once thought possible, thanks to the National Federation of the Blind of Arkansas and its local chapters and their work on behalf of the visually impaired community. “

With grateful hearts,
Theo’s family”

The National Federation of the Blind of Arkansas is run by the blind for the blind. The organization is part of a national organization that is 50,000 members strong. We believe that blindness is not the characteristic that defines us or our future. We practice this philosophy by educating other blind individuals to believe in their own capabilities to live an independent life and to advocate for themselves and others.

The National Federation of the Blind of Arkansas and local chapters continually strive to become integral parts of our communities by becoming resources with schools, hospitals, and retailers on the needs and accessibilities of the blind community. In advocating for the blind, we participate actively in national and state legislation that will foster independence and employment opportunities so that blind individuals may be self-sufficient. We help local and national leaders to understand community changes that help them become active community members.

Our organization operates on a small budget, and our current funding does not allow us to serve all the individuals that need our help without your support. Won’t you give a little to help another individual improve their quality of life and to live independently?
