Ok we may have over corrected a little 😳🫣

Adoptable Mildred: February - present day.

She’s fat I’m not gonna lie.
She loves food.
She love eating.
And she loves lounging on her comfy couch.

But Mildred is no spring chicken and the extra weight isn’t helpful on her old lady body.

Mildred would love to find a foster home or a forever home that will treat her like the queen she knows she is. Spoil her and get her up and moving more!

So far she’s been friendly with all people she’s met.

I am going to say no cats or small animals for now but she has not been tested in a home setting cats yet.

So far she has gotten along well with medium to large dogs that are submissive or at least not reactive.
She loves her dog friends that respect her though and will play and romp in the yard.
She is just a woman who demands respect.
She seems to share toys well out in the yard while playing but seems a little guardyo of treats and food while in her kennel if she thinks another dog might be able to sneak her snacks.

Mildred is potty trained and doesn’t have accidents in her kennel even when left longer than usual.

She is not destructive of her couch or bedding but she’s a fan of destroying toys. We have found that nylobones, or toys that are similar, satisfy her urge to chew and she very much enjoys them.

She LOVES the doggie pools and is hilarious to watch splashing in the water

She knows several commands including sit, shake, lay down, stay, kennel, and probably more we haven’t even discovered yet.

Someone loved her enough once upon a time to teach her how to be a good girl.
How she ended in the shape she was in when brought to us we will never know.

Please share so we can find Mildred a home!

Low cost cat spay/neuter option! No excuses, fix those kitties. If you feed them, you care about them, if you care about them then you must fix them! It takes a village folks, rescues and shelters can’t keep up. EVERYONE CAN DO SOMETHING

You might have noticed Underdog Salvation is a little on the full side 😳

That means money is tight!
That also means my brain capacity for creative thinking is nonexistent.
Thinking of 7 names for our recent little dog intake is not working. 🫠

So…
We thought we would try something new!

For a donation of $200 you can sponsor one of these 7 little dogs and with that, along with an honorary mention on our page, you get to…NAME THE DOG! 🐾

A sponsor can be an individual, a family, or a business.

I just have one simple request.
Please try to use names that are not super commonly used.

When scrolling Petfinder, people are less likely to remember our dog if its name is Bella after they have already scrolled past 15 other dogs named Bella.

Unique names help the dogs to stand out when being viewed on the adoption sites!

*This is not a rule, just a suggestion, your sponsorship your name choice!

Here is how it works:

🐾 Comment ā€œSPONSOREDā€ on the picture of the dog you’re sponsoring (each photo is labeled male/female)

🐾Send a donation of $200 via Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, or here on facebook (links provided below)

🐾 Before sending your donation add a memo with the name you would like us to use

We will post each dogs name and sponsor as we receive them!

Recently we were contacted by a person in need of some help.
They had gotten themselves into an overwhelming situation where a few dogs turned into way too many dogs.
I believe this person was well meaning, not purposefully harming the dogs, not horribly neglecting the dogs (the ones we took in were a healthy weight and overall well kept minus some fleas and flea dermatitis), but just perhaps got consumed with life struggles, as we all have at times.

Whatever the case may have been, yes, It is easy to say ā€œ they should haveā€¦ā€ or ā€œwhy didn’t theyā€¦ā€

Well thank you Captain Hindsight…
That isn’t helpful now.

The fact is, it happened already.
Shaming, judging, or listing a bunch of scenarios with which this situation could have been avoided, does nothing constructive.

Instead, what if we all tried saying things like ā€œHow can I help?ā€

The dogs, the owner, the rescues/shelters…whatever ā€œhelpā€ looks like, that needs to be the focal point.

We will continue offering to be a resource for this person and their remaining pets as well as any other community members that reach out in need.

And on that note, Welcome to the Underdogs little doggos

Spay and neuter is extremely important not only for the health of the animal but the overpopulation problem we are facing with domestic pets in this community.
As rescues/shelters, as pet owners, as human beings, we have to work together as much as we can to offer SUPPORT and not SHAME.

Below I have compiled a list of low cost spay and neuter resources (please add more in the comments if I have missed any!)

• Public Vet

• The Low Cost Spay Neuter Clinic

Let me take you on a journey…

This is the newest underdog, who we have named Dahlia.
Upland folks may know her as ā€œThe North Street Dogā€.
And for THREE YEARS (according to multiple neighbors) this beauty had been living on an empty lot relying on the kindness of the neighborhood to keep her fed.
They say she appeared one day out of the blue, and there she stayed.
She was terrified to let anyone near her.
Too scared to get close enough to let them help her.

Recently, one of those neighbors reached out to us about this situation.
After going to see for myself, we started on a plan.

Initially we put out a standard ā€œcoyoteā€ live trap, although I knew she was going to be way too smart to fall for that!
So…
Somehow between
working tons of overtime,
searching for a reliable vehicle after ours was totaled so I have something to get to and from Fort Wayne for spay and neuter transports,
and taking multiple classes to grown and advance in his career…
Tyler, on his birthday no less, built me a kennel trap (commonly known as a ā€œmissy trapā€ in the rescue world) so that we can safely catch Dahlia.

The kennel trap was a complete game changer!
We had her caught within 5 hours of the trap being placed! šŸ™Œ
Excitement doesn’t begin to describe the feeling we had seeing the cell cam pic come through.

Having a kennel trap has been a dream of mine for so long for these exact situations!
I am so thankful for Tyler for always coming through for the underdogs! 🄰

When we arrived Dahlia was scared,
but by the time we got to the truck to load up, she couldn’t jump in fast enough!
The relief she felt was palpable.

We got her home and settled and I sat with her a while.
Petting her and talking to her.
Reminding her what love feels like.

The next morning she was a completely different dog than the one I had met in that empty lot.
She was happy, playful, silly, bouncy, kissy, cuddly, lovey and all around as ā€œnormalā€ as a dog can be.

3 years she was too afraid to let anyone as much as pet her, but she had finally let her guard down.
There was no more looking over her shoulder, no more worry.
She remembers everything about being a dog.
She remembers commands for sit, stay, come, crate, lay down, and can even shake (plus ā€œother pawā€), circle, and speak….

Someone loved this dog at one point in her life.
Loved her enough to train her to be a good girl.

We don’t know how she ended up where she did but in our experience, dogs wait for their owners where ever they are left.
To think she might have been waiting there for three years expecting her owners to be back…
the level of loyalty dogs have for us when we let them down so badly is incredible.

Dahlia may have had a confusing few years but from now on she will know nothing but love!

We will be getting her into the vet soon for an exam. She will need her vaccinations and heartworm test (being outdoors for three years with no heartworm prevention definitely has me worried).
She also has a broken tooth that will need attention and a mammary tumor that is concerning.
And of course she will be spayed when deemed healthy for surgery.

Saving this sweet girl took a village and I am incredibly thankful to all of the neighbors who watched over her, fed her, and offered her warm places to sleep.

Send Dahlia good vibes for her bright future! ā¤ļøšŸ¾

Three cats found themselves needing help recently all from different situations.
All need neutered and the other basics needed for a healthy cat life.
We need donations.
Hate to ask because everyone is always asking but our adoption fee of $0.00 for cats just doesn’t cover the $100.00 + that it typically takes to provide all the necessary baseline care needed for them to be adopted.
On top of that we are completely out of dry cat food.
Welcome Tilty cat, Silvio, and Eeyore

Please consider donating, it is the only way we are able to continue this mission.

Guys…when it rains on the underdogs it really rains on us.
We currently have no vehicle as the ol p**s missile was totaled recently when a deer thought he would play Russian roulette and everyone lost (thank god Tyler was not injured!).
So one vehicle household over here and a husband that works 24hr shifts…thanks mom for driving Ryder and I where we need to go lately šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø
Then… just a few minutes ago this lovely new problem occurred.
I don’t even know what all help we need at this point. But seriously why 😭

šŸ“¢ Foster homes needed! šŸ“¢

We have several amazing dogs (and more coming to us later today) that we would love to get into a home environment while awaiting adoption, instead of in kennels.
How some of the dogs we have right now found themselves homeless I don’t understand. They are good, behaved dogs with manners and some basic training under their belt, or collar rather…
Fostering saves lives that’s the bottom line. Families look at photos online before ever meeting a dog and the photos showing them living in a home doing normal dog stuff are the photos that get people interested in adopting them.
I wish I could have every dog in my house but at a certain number of dogs in the house you begin to loose sanity, this is where y’all come in!
Spread the work load a bit and helping the dog find a home, that’s doing your part for the greater good!
Fostering is 100% no obligation, no pressure, no guilt trips, all supplies needed provided, endless moral support, and never ever costs you a penny. Vet care is all done through our vets and paid for by us.
Food, crate, toys, bowls, treats, blankets, … if we have it we send it.
What I don’t have though is a cloning machine to make 75 more of me to be able to do everything that I need to do let alone the things I want to do and even more so the things the outside world expects me to do.
Rescue isn’t easy but it could be a little easier with committed volunteers and fosters.
If you love dogs and want to help set them up for success, reach out!

*post written in my very own words from my own brain - no AI here, so you know this plea is absolutely sincerešŸ˜µā€šŸ’«
