COVID-19 update for Georgia workers:

The Georgia Department of Labor has made some rule changes regarding unemployment.

"In response to the recent development of COVID-19, the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) is temporarily suspending in-person requirements for services provided by the agency. In accordance with Governor Kemp’s recommendation, the GDOL is providing online access to unemployment services, partial claim access for employers, and other reemployment services.
Employers are required to file partial claims on behalf of their employees whenever it is necessary to temporarily reduce work hours or there is no work available for a short period. Any employer found to be in violation of this rule will be required to reimburse GDOL for the full amount of unemployment insurance benefits paid to the employee."

Local 528 Members- Please take note and spread the word: the Teamsters Local 528 General Membership Meeting scheduled for March 21st has been cancelled due to COVID-19!

Teamsters Local 528 offices remain open during normal hours.

Teamsters Local 528 is responding to this pandemic by communicating directly with the membership about our rights to a safe work environment, job security protections in the event of a lay-off or reduction of work, and access to paid leave.

Local 528 is calling upon all Teamster employers to protect the health of the workforce and the general public more than ever before.

It is vital that we all stay safe on the job and that our employers provide all workers with critical information about the virus, access to paid leave and personal protective equipment at all times.

At 6 am this morning, Local 528 President Maurice Cobb, Organizing Director Ben Speight, and business agents Larry Hogue and Kipling Cortez handbilled the Agro Merchant Group (formerly Nordic) cold storage workers in Doraville, GA.

Teamsters Local 528 is committed to organizing workers in the warehouse and transportation industries who are seeking to raise their standard on the job and have a voice at work.

If you know of workers who are getting abused on the job and want the justice that only a Teamsters contract can provide, urge them to call Local 528 today!

Teamsters Local 528 is participating in the annual Georgia AFL-CIO labor lobby day with union members from across our state.
Local 528 is fighting against HB 758 that would make it easier for trucking companies to misclassify Georgia truck drivers as "independent contractors".

Willie Reid, Americold steward, and Kipling Cortez, Sysco steward, are volunteering today and tomorrow with Local 528 Organizing and Political Director Ben Speight at the Georgia State Capitol.
Teamsters Local 528 is participating in the annual Georgia AFL-CIO labor lobby day where union members meet their legislators and push for pro-union legislation.
This year, Local 528 is fighting against HB 758 that would make it easier for trucking companies to misclassify Georgia truck drivers as "independent contractors" - denying them basic rights on the job, including the basic human right to form a union.

Teamsters: FILL OUT THE PRESIDENTIAL PREFERENCE SURVEY TODAY!

With the 2020 Election already in full swing we wanted to update you on the status of the Teamster Union’s engagement with the Presidential candidates and ask for your assistance with a survey of Teamster members. A survey for Teamster leadership will also be sent to you soon.

All Presidential campaigns have been notified of what they must do to be considered for the endorsement of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Go to www.TeamstersVote.com to see the endorsement criteria and where each candidate is in the process. You can also see where the candidates stand on key Teamster priorities, view the Teamster Candidates Forum from last December, as well as other engagement between the Union and the candidates on that site.

At this time, we are interested in seeing who Teamster rank and file members believe deserves our union’s endorsement. Members can go to www.Teamsters2020.com to rank their preference for endorsement. Attached is a flier to be shared with the membership.

A survey for Teamster Local leaders will be circulated in the near future as well.
