Clayton County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors (SWCD) hosted their 2nd Annual Agriculture Field Day for high schoolers on Thursday, April 2 at the Lovejoy Community Gardens. The event highlighted agriculture and related career fields, and featured livestock animals, farming equipment, a drone demonstration and technology usage in precision agriculture by the UGA Crop and Soil Sciences Department; a composting demonstration by Hand, Heart, and Soul Project; a tour of the Lovejoy Community Gardens Farm Store, and live hands-on demonstrations by Clayton County UGA Extension, the Newman Wetlands Center, Clayton County Farm Bureau, Produce'd Hydroponics, and NVS Building Communities Program. The event was a success with over 80 in attendance including students, community members, farmers, and volunteers. Students from Lovejoy High School, Mundy's Mill High School, Forest Park High School, and Riverdale High School attended, as well as various partner agencies including the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Georgia Association of Conservation Districts, and local urban farmers and producers. Lunch was generously provided by NVS Soul Food. A special thank you each of the exhibitors and partners mentioned above, and to Mr. Keith Anderson, Farm Manager of Lovejoy Community Gardens, for co-hosting the event, Dr. Deetra Poindexter for coordinating the event, Honorable Valenica Stovall with Hand, GYCC for conducting an ag careers activity with the students and manning the SWCD's booth, and special guests Clayton County Public Schools Interim Superintendent Dr. Douglas Hendrix, and Clayton County School Board Member District 3 Dr. Jessie Goree for their support. Clayton County SWCD would like to thank each demonstrator, partner and volunteer present for helping to make this a fun, engaging, informative and positive experience! }Wetland
