Hello Fellow Enthusiasts,
For many years, CATOE has dedicated its efforts to preserving and maintaining the historic Geneva/Marr-Colton pipe organ at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles Illinois. In 2020, the theatre requested that we temporarily remove the console to accommodate a front-of-house renovation, with the understanding that a new console lift would be purchased and installed.
While we have actively collaborated with theatre management to advance this project, the installation remains incomplete. Consequently, the organ was unable to be played for the theatre's landmark 100th anniversary this past Labor Day. The situation is particularly poignant because the theatre genuinely desires to feature the organ as walk in music and resume its popular monthly silent movie screenings.
The Arcada Theatre recently posted on Facebook seeking public input regarding its future programming. This presents a vital opportunity for our community. We kindly ask that you visit the link below to share a polite, supportive comment emphasizing the historical significance of this instrument. (There are virtually no remaining Geneva theatre organs left in public venues and only one Marr Colton I believe)
Please encourage them courteously to finalize the lift installation so that CATOE can complete our work and bring this magnificent instrument back to life.

In case anyone hasn't see this exciting news! Jay Warren Way sign installation ceremony in Chicago, IL

Exciting news from the Silent Film Society of Chicago:
We are happy to announce that the Chicago City Council has declared the portion of Milwaukee Avenue in front of the Portage Theatre as the honorary Jay Warren Way to recognize Six Corners own Jay Warren a/k/a Dennis Wolkowicz organist for the Silent Film Society of Chicago and former operator of the Portage Theatre from 2006 to 2015 as well as the Copernicus Foundation (formerly The Gateway Theater) from 1985 to 2004 and The family business on Milwaukee Ave. Dennis spent most of his life owning and working businesses up and down Milwaukee Avenue and was proudest of his time in Six Corners and his accomplishments with the Portage Theatre and the Silent Film Society of Chicago.
The new Jay Warren Way sign will be installed with a short ceremony on Thursday, August 20 at 6:30 pm with a reception to follow at the Silent Film Society of Chicago, [4054 N. Milwaukee Ave

Had a great CATOE social Sunday -- thanks to our artists - Daniel Boin and David Rhodes for a wonderful afternoon of music. Nice to see some of our CATOE members and all those that tried the Howard Seat during open console - they seemed to enjoy the experience! Treat table was just waiting on singing of Happy Birthday to "Edna" before the cake appeared!
