Collins St Neighborhood Council

Collins St Neighborhood Council What We Do:
Community Committee: Connects with Community Centers, Organizations, and
Clergy within our community to address needs and concerns of residents.

This
committee was formed to keep an open line of communication and a direct flow of
services through the entire community in the Collins St Area. Education Committee: Works directly with Parks Elementary School, Sanchez
Elementary School, and Gompers Junior High School Principals and PTO. This
committee will work directly with the Community Committee to ensure the children in the community are active and accessing available resources. The approach is that education is everywhere and used in everything. Crime Prevention: Works hand in hand with the Community and Education
Committee. With the support of the Joliet Police Department this committee will form a Neighborhood Watch, Promote Smart Policing, and Calling Police. This committee will also coordinate 911 Education Classes in English and Spanish. Get involved and connected with a committee today. So much can be done right from the comfort of your home. Joliet’s Mexican history lives in our homes—in old photographs, letters, church programs, business memories, celebrations, and the stories our families continue to tell.

On Monday, October 12, we invite families to bring a piece of their history to the Joliet Area Historical Museum. Together, we can help make sure these memories are seen, valued, and preserved for the next generation.

EYES ON ICE: On September 20th around 11:48am a neighbor was abducted by ICE agents on the 1300 block of West Jefferson Street. Agents blocked in the impacted individual’s vehicle and pulled him out. Federal agents then drove his vehicle off the street into a business parking lot. Neighbors and family members responded to the area. The Will County Rapid Response Network Joliet team completed witness interviews, reviewed footage, canvassed the area and is in communication with the family. The area has been clear of immigration agents since this incident. We urge the public to continue to call the Family Support Network if you see anything suspicious at 855-435-7693.
