The Joliet American Legion Band will be busy as usual this Memorial Day weekend.
On Saturday morning we begin with a 10am parade through the Carillon Lakes subdivision near Weber and Renwick Roads.
On Memorial Day, starting at 7:30am, we visit the gravesites and pay tribute to the following individuals, for without them there would be no present day Joliet American Legion Band:
- Thomas (Tom) J. Drake - Director Emeritus (Resurrection Cemetery)
- A.R. McAllister, Sr. - in whose memory the band was originally named (Elmhurst Cemetery)
- Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Elmhurst Cemetery)
- A.R. (Archie) McAllister, Jr. - Band co-founder (Elmhurst Cemetery)
- William E. (Bill) Austin, Jr. - Band co-founder (Mt. Olivet Cemetery)
The band will then travel to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood to participate in the grand ceremony saluting the fallen.
The Joliet American Legion Band, the official band of the ALNC, will offer a musical prelude at 11am and perform throughout the ceremony.
Please try to attend a Memorial Day ceremony in your area this weekend. However, if you are unable to attend a ceremony, at a minimum, please take a moment to pause and reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day.
Please join us on Memorial Day for our 27th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony. Details are listed in the flyer below, please feel free to give us a call at (815) 423-9958 if you have any questions. More details on flag placement and removal will be posted soon, so be sure to check back for that information.
