Congressman García has been a longtime supporter of WWJ and a lifelong advocate for working people. From his time as an alderman in Chicago several decades ago to his most recent term representing the 4th district in Washington, D.C., Congressman García has stood with workers, immigrants, and communities fighting for equity and justice. We’re excited to celebrate with him on October 15th.

Meet our Founders Award honoree: Carl Rosen!

As the former national president of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America (UE), Carl Rosen has spent decades standing alongside working people and building worker power.

Carl was instrumental in founding Warehouse Workers for Justice 18 years ago, laying the foundation for the worker-led movement we continue to build today. Even now, as an active WWJ board member, he continues to connect our organization to broader labor campaigns, strengthen our movement, and support the fight for justice for warehouse workers and working people across the state.

As Carl celebrates his retirement, we’re proud to honor his lasting contributions, unwavering solidarity, and years of commitment with the Founders Award at our 2026 WWJ Fundraiser.

Meet our Worker Power Award honorees: the RJW Logistics Worker Committee!

These workers have shown what it means to build power from the ground up. They organized hundreds of their coworkers to take action and file complaints that led to raises and helped hundreds of workers receive DALE (Deferred Action for Labor Enforcement).

When workers have the knowledge and tools to stand up for their rights, they can protect themselves and each other.

Meet our Worker’s Champion Award honoree: State Representative Edgar Gonzalez Jr.
Strong workplace protections start with workers having champions in government who listen to their communities and fight for better standards.

Rep. Gonzalez has been a longtime advocate for working people in Illinois, including sponsoring legislation that strengthened protections for temporary workers and workplace safety. He also stood toe-to-toe against ICE agents when they were attacking working immigrants in Chicago. He is the kind of leader we need in Springfield and we appreciate him standing with working families in Illinois.

Meet our Solidarity Forever Award honoree: Southwest Suburban Immigrant Project - SSIP

Over the past year, SSIP has been a key partner in supporting immigrant workers and strengthening rapid response efforts across Will County. Their work has helped build a stronger network of organizations and community members standing together for the safety and dignity of working people.

ICE ON EYES: Around 8:00 A.M. ICE agents tried to enter the Will County courthouse in Joliet. They were denied entry as a result of IL state laws and the executive order which prohibits immigration activity on Will County property. However, it is highly likely that federal immigration agents are still roaming the area. If you are nearby or have court today, take all possible precautions. EYES ON ICE: On September 20th around 11:48am a neighbor was abducted by ICE agents on the 1300 block of West Jefferson Street. Agents blocked in the impacted individual’s vehicle and pulled him out. Federal agents then drove his vehicle off the street into a business parking lot. Neighbors and family members responded to the area. The Will County Rapid Response Network Joliet team completed witness interviews, reviewed footage, canvassed the area and is in communication with the family. The area has been clear of immigration agents since this incident. We urge the public to continue to call the Family Support Network if you see anything suspicious at 855-435-7693.

Tuvimos el honor de participar en la Feria de Salud, Orientación Legal Migratoria y Derechos Laborales del Consulado General de Guatemala en Chicago, donde pudimos conectar con trabajadores, compartir recursos importantes y brindar información sobre sus derechos.

También fue una oportunidad para celebrar junto a la comunidad la independencia de Guatemala. 🇬🇹🎉
