The 1889 Foundation is proud to announce that it has awarded a $100,000 grant to launch the Smart Start Promise Program at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College!

This transformative pilot initiative will help recent Cambria County high school graduates begin their college journey with minimal to no personal expenses by covering tuition and comprehensive fees for up to 30 credits in their first year.

At the 1889 Foundation, we believe education is one of the most powerful drivers of opportunity and economic mobility. Removing financial barriers early gives young people the chance to focus on learning, build confidence, and create a brighter future right here in our region.

Trevor Anderson, an 1889 Foundation board member, shared our excitement at today’s launch: “When we remove barriers to education, especially for young people just beginning their futures, we create opportunities that can change lives.”
