Dear friends and family,
First the Olivas family and the John R. Olivas Memorial scholarship committee would like to thank you for you for the outpouring of love and support that you have shown us over the last 12 years. The loss of a child/sibling is perhaps one of the most difficult life changing events that any family can face. Without strong support it’s near impossible to cope with the loss. We have been fortunate from that standpoint and words alone cannot express our gratitude. Your support of the John R. Olivas Memorial Scholarship has afforded us the means to keep John Jr’s memory and spirit alive and feeds the well of love that we share for John Jr.
Seeking to find any good in a tragic situation is difficult at best but through this all we have had the opportunity to make many new friends, unite with old friends and family, and to support the youth of our community all while honoring John Jr. Furthermore your generosity has made it possible for the scholarship to be self-sustaining over the next 10 years. Due in part to this we have made the difficult decision to retire the John R. Olivas Memorial golf tournament. We sincerely thank you all for the wonderful memories we’ve created together. Those memories have and will continue to be medicine for our souls.
We would be remiss if we don’t reach out to those who unwaveringly supported the annual John R. Olivas Memorial golf tournament. First to the scholarship committee thank you for everything you did to make this possible. Your tireless efforts serve as an example of what can be accomplished in the name of love. To the Podtburg family we love you guys. We know that you loved John Jr. and he loved you all deeply too. Your support made this burden a bit easier to shoulder. To Tauyna Feyen and the entire Snaptron team your friendship and generosity mean so much to us. We cannot thank you enough. There are so many throughout Johnstown and Northern Colorado that supported us. If you are reading this know that you hold a special place in our hearts. All I can say is that we are blessed to live in this community and to be surrounded by such a group of wonderful caring people.
Lastly to our beautiful family whom we love dearly you rock! The love that binds us together reaches to the heavens and I know that John-John is smiling down on us knowing that we have not forgotten. The love you have for him and the love that he has for you will live on forever. It is our sincere hope that over the last 12 years this event has helped you find some sense of closure and comfort. God bless you, we love you all so much.
Sincerely,
John, Tina & Danielle Olivas.
