The gloomy weather we’ve been having isn’t going to rain on our parade (figuratively speaking) …just in time for Memorial Day weekend and our borough-wide Decoration Day Contest, the community planter boxes have officially been placed along the main thoroughfare for the summer season.

What started as a simple idea to add a little beauty to our streets has blossomed into something much bigger, colorful reminders that pride, community, and kindness still grow here… each planter helps add another small touch of home to the neighborhood we all share.

As you travel through Brownstown this holiday weekend, take a moment to enjoy the flowers, the decorations, and the spirit of the season. Memorial Day reminds us to honor and remember those who gave everything for our freedom, while Decoration Day carries on the tradition of communities coming together with pride and patriotism.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who continues to help make Brownstown beautiful. Sometimes the smallest things, a flower planted, a flag displayed, a neighbor waving as they pass by, end up brightening an entire town.

Happy Memorial Day, Brownstown!🇺🇸

You’ve probably noticed a few new flashes of green along Habicht Street lately…

The new LED Speed Limit signs are officially up and running, and we’re happy to hear from residents that they already seem to be making a difference by encouraging drivers to slow down and helping make our neighborhood safer.

This project was made possible through funding from the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies Spring 2025 Grant Round, allowing Brownstown Improvement Group to assist Brownstown Borough with the purchase of solar-powered traffic safety signs throughout the community.

Sometimes the smallest reminders create the biggest impact.

Thank you to everyone helping keep Brownstown safe, one mile per hour at a time. 👍🏻

‼️CONTEST DATES EXTENDED‼️

✨🇺🇸 Brownstown Decoration Day Contest 🇺🇸✨

Hosted by the Brownstown Improvement Group with prizes compliments of Riek's of Brownstown.
This year, as America celebrates 250 Years of Freedom, we invite the residents of Brownstown
Borough to step back into the spirit of “Decoration Day”, the tradition that later became Memorial Day, by honoring our nation, our history, and those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy today.

From porches dressed in red, white, and blue... to historic tributes, patriotic gardens, vintage Americana, waving flags, lights, bunting, and heartfelt displays of remembrance… we encourage the community to bring the stars and stripes to life in a way that tells a story of freedom. 🇺🇸✨

Because nothing says “American spirit” quite like turning your front yard into a patriotic masterpiece worthy of a bald eagle flyover. 🦅
