Beef Sticks for Backpacks A non-profit organization committed to distributing high quality beef sticks to backpack programs.

Beef Sticks for Backpacks (formerly Beef Bank Colorado) sets out to put a high quality, high protein Bbefstick in all backpack programs in the state of Colorado. Backpack programs throughout the state bridge the gap between school days and the weekends for kids who are food insecure. Our beef sticks recipe and production takes place in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Colorado State University. In conjunction with the University our friends and members of Colorado Livestock Association, Colorado Cattlemen's Association helped get this initiative off the ground. Other agricultural business and ancillary businesses that support Colorado agriculture have allowed the this project to begin scale. What started out as Colorado agriculture supporting Beef Sticks for Backpacks it has transcended into the entire Colorado community providing support. WITH THE SUPPORT OF OUR GREAT DONORS AND FUTURE DONORS, WE CAN FULFILL OUR OBJECTIVE OF PUTTING AT LEAST ONE BEEF STICK INTO EVERY SINGLE BACKPACK PROGRAM IN THE STATE OF COLORADO! Ever wonder what goes home in a weekend backpack?
While this isn't an exact example and items vary week to week, the focus is on shelf-stable meals, snacks, and a beef stick with 8 grams of protein.
Protein is one of the hardest and most expensive items for food banks to source.
Our goal is to make sure every hungry kid in Colorado gets a beef stick each weekend.

September is Hunger Action Month. In Colorado, about 1 in 6 kids faces food insecurity.
School meals help Monday through Friday, but when the bell rings on Friday, that safety net disappears.
Backpack programs send food home for the weekend, and we make sure every bag has a protein-packed beef stick in it.

Small but Mighty. 💪🥩

Each Beef Sticks for Backpacks beef stick packs 8 grams of protein into a shelf-stable, kid-friendly snack that's easy to tuck into a backpack and take home for the weekend.

It may be small, but when thousands of sticks head home with Colorado kids each week, the impact adds up quickly.

You may see us talk about "backpack programs" and wonder how those work.

Each week, beef sticks are made, packaged, and shipped from Colorado State University where student employees work in the meat lad on campus.

Distribution locations receive beef sticks and other various donated food items.

Volunteers come together to back hundreds or thousands of bags or "backpacks" for students in need.

On Fridays, students in need pick up their backpack full of food, including their 8 grams of protein in their beef stick.
