Anyone know what Company L did at Anzio? We received this inquiry:
I am researching my relative, PFC Peter Rocco, ASN 33440162, who served with L Company, 168th Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division, and was killed in action in Italy on 6 April 1944.
I have located an L Company morning report showing his KIA status, the report places L Company approximately two miles east of Bargo/Borgo Montello, Italy, during this April 1944 period. I am now trying to understand the broader context of what L Company was doing in the days leading up to his death and on 6 April 1944 itself.
I am especially interested in learning whether the Association has, or can point me toward, any records, maps, journals, after-action reports, newsletters, memoirs, photographs, or veteran accounts concerning the 168th Infantry Regiment or 34th Infantry Division that discuss L Company or the 3rd Battalion around the Anzio beachhead in early April 1944.
My goal is to better understand where L Company was positioned, what was happening in that sector, and what kind of action Peter Rocco may have been involved in when he was killed.
If there is an Association historian, archivist, newsletter editor, or member who might know where to look next, I would be very grateful for any guidance.
Thank you for your time and for preserving the history of the 34th Infantry Division.
Respectfully,
William Fisher
