Another Plant Iowa Beautiful project is officially in the books! 🎉 🌳

The Riverton Hometown Pride team recently planted four new trees (two Royal Raindrop flowering crabapple trees and two Spring Snow crabapple trees) in Riverton’s historic City Park, a place with deep roots in both Iowa history and our Keep Iowa Beautiful family.

The park is home to the Riverton Chautauqua Pavilion, a unique 12-sided, open-air structure built in 1897. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this community mainstay has hosted everything from Chautauqua shows and graduations to weddings and the annual Riverton Day celebration.

The Riverton Hometown Pride group has been working hard to preserve this gem, utilizing a 2024 Paint Iowa Beautiful grant and a State Historical Society of Iowa grant to plan for its future.

Congrats to all the incredible volunteers who stepped up to make this latest park improvement a success! 🙌💚

Did you know that today is National Leave the Office Early Day??? And we have the *perfect* excuse for you to head out early. Instead of sitting in traffic or jumping onto another Zoom call, we’re challenging you to spend those extra hours outside participating in Pick-Up Iowa!

Grab your coworkers, your family, or just a pair of gloves, and help us clear litter from our local parks, trails, and neighborhoods. Let’s show our communities some love and Keep Iowa Beautiful. ✨

With nicer weather comes community beautification! 🎨 More of the 2026 Paint Iowa Beautiful projects have been completed, and we are proud to share them with you!

The following organizations and their projects are pictured:
City of Rock Rapids - Island Park Bathhouse
Kiwanis of Rock Rapids - Kiwanis Park bathroom and dugout
Rock Rapids Chamber of Commerce - Island Park Closed Shelter
Louisa County Conservation - Langwood Education Center Bird Blind

Amazing job to these volunteers! We can’t wait to see the rest of the Paint Iowa Beautiful projects this year!

Pick-Up Iowa is in full swing! Check out these pics from recent Pick-Up events from all over Iowa! 📷Scroll through to see where each group is from!

And because of AMAZING volunteers like 👇 2026 is officially on track to be our biggest year yet! Our original goal was to have 2,500 volunteers picking up 2,500 bags of litter. To date, we have 89 events registered with over 3,300 volunteers filling 2,500 trash bags! 🥳

Since you absolutely smashed our first goal, we’re setting a new challenge: Can we get to 100 Pick-Up Iowa events registered and completed? 💯

🌸 Storm Lake is blooming! 🌸

The first Plant Iowa Beautiful grant project has been completed in Storm Lake! Earlier this month, Storm Lake Hometown Pride teamed up with nearly local first grade students to bring vibrant new life to 29 main street planters, local parks, golf courses, and campgrounds.

Not only was the City of Storm Lake beautified, but the local students were able to connect their experience to their recent school science lessons about the importance of plants in the ecosystem AND they learned the importance of volunteering!

In honor of 🚲 National Bike to Work day 🚲 AND our Pick-Up Iowa program, we want to give a shout-out to the Trail Cleaning Bicyclists of Linn County, a group who picks up litter while cycling! This year, they registered multiple Pick-Up Iowa events for their members, who attached trailers to their bicycles to hold their bags of litter, which they filled throughout their ride. Keeping Iowa Beautiful and doing what they love! Win Win!!! 🏆🏆

The Keep Iowa Beautiful board and staff gathered this week for our May board meeting! A lot was covered, but here are some highlights…

💡We’re dreaming up fresh ways to keep our mission moving forward! Whether it’s a new partnership or a new sponsor, we are looking for ways to grow! 🤝

🚀Our marketing consultant, Emerge Marketing Solutions, joined us to share all they have been doing to share our work with more people than ever before! We are so thankful to have them on our team!

⛳️🏌️‍♂️Our annual golf tournament is coming up soon and we are so proud and thankful for the support we receive each year from our sponsors! We are also looking for exciting new auction items to get a wider audience involved in supporting us through the online auction!!!

🏆 Lastly, we took a moment to celebrate! In April, Keep Iowa Beautiful was honored with a Rand Fisher Rural Business Leadership Award! We are so proud to be recognized for our work in rural Iowa and are feeling extra motivated to keep that momentum going.

The Brownies from Troop 01433 in Des Moines spent last Sunday participating in Pick-Up Iowa and showing some major love to their community! The girls earned their Eco Friend Badge in the process!

When it comes to caring for your community and volunteerism, these girls prove that it’s never too early to start!!! 💚
