Summer Camp Day 4: Today’s merit badges were the conclusion of Tuesday’s merit badges. The troop active included “big boat” (a sail boat for 7) and aqua tramp (a giant trampoline on the lake). Some Scouts stayed out of the cold water and played some sand volleyball instead. The troop also volunteered to clean the bathrooms by the beach. The evening was filled with a chess tournament, the “King of the Tower” competition (congratulations to Nolan for the win), and a final surprise of s’mores and watch party of USA vs Turkey.

A special shout out to Ben and Matthew for planning a surprise celebration for Ed’s 15th anniversary. Ben bought him an apple pie since his favorite dessert is his wife’s homemade apple pie.

Summer Camp Day 3: Today’s merit badges were the same as Monday’s merit badges. The Scouts in the trades brought back some really cool projects including a hook and some cubes. This afternoon’s canoe trip to the ice cream shop was modified due to thunderstorms, but we still made it and loved the local flavors. The real highlight of the day was the cheeseburger grill out beach party followed by the water polo tournament. Troop 44 won the Scout bracket and had the opportunity to face the staff. Unfortunately for the Scouts, the staff team included some collegiate level athletes and Troop 44 was playing it’s third consecutive game. In a shown of mercy, a few Troop 44 leaders assisted when the Scouts were too tired and were able to get two goals preventing the shutout. The final score of 10-2 was not what we hoped for, but great bonds were formed in the tournament and the Scouts showed great sportsmanship. So the experience was a win.

Summer Camp Day 2: Morning activities were quite diverse with shotgun kayaking, rowing bird study salesmanship fishing, photography and chess. Some Scouts went and did trades learning to do some welding. The real highlight was yesterday afternoon’s troop activities. The first one was logging camp, which included old time activities such as blacksmithing, two man saw, candle making, climbing wood poles, trying to catch a chicken, board games, and some homemade root beer. After that, we went to a fire tower. Scouts could go up six at a time. Climbing 144 steps to the top of a 110 foot tower used to look for forest fires.

We got a little bit wet yesterday afternoon, but that did not stop our troop from lowering flags outside in our class, A uniforms and saying grace for the entire camp.
