The 13th season of JC Kids’ Lunch Bunch begins in a few days. Since its humble beginnings in 2010, Lunch Bunch has served nearly 50,000 meals to local children, their parents, care- givers, volunteers, and neighbors. Almost 20,000 of these meals were delivered under COVID restrictions in 2020 and 2021. JCity Church (Johnston City Free Will Baptist Church) is the sponsor for this official Summer Fo
od Service Program administered by the Illinois Board of Education. Department of Agriculture, we serve free, nutritious meals for children ages 1-18, regardless of family income. Since COVID restrictions have eased, we are taking Lunch Bunch to the park. We’ll be serving meals daily at Mike Dean Memorial Park (behind Washington Middle school, adjacent to the Scout Cabin) in Johnston City. In inclement weather, we will eat inside the Scout Cabin. During lunch, volunteers will share stories about “Super Heroes” in the Bible with interested students. Our program begins Monday, June 6. Meals are served each weekday 11:30am – 12:30pm through July 29 (excluding July 4). Unlike previous years, we will not provide transportation or supervised activities after lunch. It is our pleasure to provide this ministry to our community and we appreciate your cooperation and support. Please post the enclosed poster in a prominent place. We also welcome donations (tax-deductible) of any size or gifts in-kind (food items, paper goods, desserts, fresh vegetables, services, etc.). Donations from our community buy food items for kids’ “Friday Bags” and meals for parents or other adults bringing children to the park.
