💔 Remembering Dolly Parton – and a legacy that lives on in Nottingham
We were incredibly saddened to hear today of the death of the wonderful Dolly Parton, aged 80.
To millions around the world she was an extraordinary singer, songwriter and entertainer – but her legacy reaches far beyond music.
Through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, her belief in the power of books and reading has put millions of books into the hands of young children across the world. Here in Nottingham, it is a legacy that we at the Rotary Club of Nottingham have been very proud to play a part in supporting.
The Imagination Library provides children with a free, specially selected book every month from birth until the age of five, helping families to share stories together and giving children the best possible start with reading.
And that work continues here in our city. ❤️📚
This photograph is particularly special to us, showing Dolly with our much-missed past member Leni, who was closely involved with the Imagination Library and helped make that connection between Dolly’s extraordinary vision and children here in Nottingham. It looks like it’s been created by AI, but it hasn’t! That really is Dolly in a Rotary Club of Nottingham tabard ✨💙
Today we remember not only a global superstar, but a woman whose generosity and determination to improve children’s lives created something that will continue long after her.
What an incredible legacy to leave behind.
Rest in peace, Dolly – and thank you for the stories. 📚❤️
