🌧️💙 We’ve been blessed with some much-needed rain in Stanton County!

All this moisture is great news for our fields, pastures, and rangelands. 🌱 But after several rainy days, it’s also a great time to check your fields and see what the rain is telling you.

Look for signs of runoff, erosion, gullies, or sediment. Also remember that healthy, protected soil helps capture more water and keep valuable topsoil in place.

💧 Do you know what’s in your groundwater?

The Kansas Geological Survey’s Aquifer Water Quality Assessment (AWQUA) program is helping Kansans better understand and protect our groundwater resources.

Through AWQUA, Kansas well owners can sign up for FREE groundwater quality testing for:

🏠 Domestic wells
🐄 Stock wells
🌾 Irrigation wells
🌱 Lawn & garden wells

Water samples are tested for a wide range of water-quality indicators, including nitrate, ammonia, chloride, arsenic, lead, uranium, total dissolved solids, and more.

🌾 For our local producers: Irrigation wells are eligible! This is a great opportunity to learn more about the quality of the groundwater being used on your operation while also contributing valuable information about Kansas groundwater resources.

Participants may choose a one-time water quality test or participate in long-term monitoring, with their well sampled every two years.

The information collected through AWQUA helps scientists better understand groundwater quality across Kansas and supports efforts to protect our aquifers for future generations.
