Appalachian Highlands Celts The purpose of AHC is to provide education about the culture and heritage of the Celtic people. We look forward to seeing you throughout the year!

The purpose of Appalachian Highlands Celts is to provide education about the culture, heritage, and contributions of the Celts and Celtic nations. The society promotes the perpetuation of Celtic culture, traditions, customs, history, art, literature, and music. Various venues are provided for recognizing and celebrating the Celts rich legacy through education and activities that promote enjoyment, entertainment, physical, mental, and social benefits of the society's members and the general public. During the year, AHC hosts and participates in events throughout our area to help promote our Celtic heritage. From festivals to Highland games events to educational presentations and more, there is something to interest every member of your family.

The Appalachian Highlands Celts had at one time considered September 19 or 26 for a gathering at Tipton Haynes. This has been postponed until Saturday November 14 due to overlapping conflicts with our venue. Put November 14 on your calendar and we'll see you then.

A Message from our President Larry Rose….

On behalf of the Appalachian Highland Celts, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make the 2026 Upper East Tennessee Celtic Festival such a success!

To our clans and societies, volunteers, entertainers, athletes, vendors, sponsors, and everyone who worked so hard behind the scenes, thank you for sharing your time, your energy talents, and passion for Celtic heritage.

And most of all, thank you to our patrons. Whether you joined us for Friday night’s free celebration, spent the weekend exploring the grounds, or traveled from near or far to be part of the festivities, your support means the world to us. Thank you for braving the weather with us! You are the reason we are able to continue bringing Celtic music, history, athletics, and traditions to our community.

We are also incredibly grateful to Tipton-Haynes State Historic Site for welcoming us to such a beautiful and historically significant home for our festival.

The celebration doesn’t end here! We have several other events planned for 2027, and we can’t wait to share what’s coming next. Keep an eye out for our upcoming announcement!

Did you know? Not every Scot belonged to a clan.

A large portion of Scotland’s population lived outside the clan system as farmers, fishermen, craftsmen, tradesmen, and townspeople. Even so, many supported nearby clans in times of conflict or trouble, and regional identity remained incredibly important. Scotland’s historic districts even developed their own tartans and traditions.

Today at the Upper East Tennessee Celtic Festival, we’re pleased to welcome the Scottish District Families Association, who will be on hand to share information about Scotland’s districts, families, and heritage beyond the clans.

A Special Guest Joins Us Today!

We’re excited to welcome Karen Young to the Upper East Tennessee Celtic Festival today!

Karen is the first female honorary member of the Knights of Saint Andrew, a proud member of Clan Young and Clan Douglas, and a member of the Social Order of the Beauceant. We’re honored to have her joining us for the final day of the festival.

We loved having Colin Grant-Adams make a couple of special guest appearances with us this weekend joining The Jacobites By Name on stage and even popping up with Grace O’Malley and her crew.

At this point, we’re starting to suspect he may have officially crossed over to the pirate side. 🏴‍☠️

Join us Sunday, September 6 beginning at 8 AM at Tipton-Haynes State Historic Site in Johnson City, Tennessee for one more full day of Celtic music, vendors, clans, demonstrations, food, and festival fun.

Be sure to join us for the Kirkin’ of the Tartan at 10 AM, then stay and enjoy everything happening across the grounds throughout the day.

Two days down but there’s still ONE MORE DAY to experience the Upper East Tennessee Celtic Festival!

The gates open at 8 AM Sunday, September 6, and we’ve got a full day of music, vendors, history, clans, demonstrations, and Celtic fun waiting for you.

Be sure to join us at 10 AM for the Kirkin’ of the Tartan, a meaningful tradition celebrating Scottish heritage and the tartans that represent families and clans.

Then spend the rest of the day enjoying live music, shopping with our vendors, visiting Clan Row, exploring the historic grounds, and taking in everything the festival has to offer.
