Hampton Creek Barrier Repair Update

Work is officially underway on the Hampton Creek barrier repair project!

Contractors from Baker Construction are currently onsite and actively working under contract with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). Crews are in the process of diverting stream flow around the barrier so that repairs can safely begin.

Once the diversion is complete, construction will move into the barrier repair phase. The project is expected to be completed within the next 60 days.

A special thank you to Barry Heller, who captured today's video while enjoying a day of fishing on Hampton Creek. His footage provides a great look at the progress being made on the project.

We appreciate everyone's patience during construction and look forward to sharing additional updates as the work progresses.

The highlight reel is here!

What a great time it was to be on the water with such wonderful people who share a love of the outdoors. At our spring camp out this year, twelve anglers joined us as we fished Deep Creek, Noland Creek, the Oconaluftee River, and several more. The fishing was a bit slow, but that didnt get in the way of us having a great time. We can't wait for our next one!

Bill Stiver - TWRA Bear Management Program

Bill Stiver brings a lifetime of wildlife experience and conservation leadership to our May meeting. Originally from Potterville, Michigan, Bill earned his B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University and his M.S. in Wildlife Sciences from University of Tennessee.

He spent 34 years with the National Park Service, including work in Shenandoah National Park and over three decades at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. His career focused on managing wild hogs, addressing human/bear conflicts, and monitoring elk and endangered bat populations.

After retiring in 2025, Bill now works part-time with the TWRA supporting black bear management efforts.

Bill will discuss the importance of the BearWise programโ€”an initiative focused on helping people live responsibly alongside black bears. Heโ€™ll also cover the Tennessee BearWise business recognition program and how cooperative efforts with TWRA can reduce human/bear conflicts in our communities.

Dinner and social time begins at 6:00, the presentation begins at 7:00. We will be providing buffalo wings and cookies for attendees. If youโ€™d prefer something different, food and drinks can be purchased at the deli line downstairs in Food City. Please note that external food is not permitted.

We hope to see everyone there!

Flows on the South Holston River are currently very low due to some unexpected work at the weir dam. Crews have been working to remove several large trees that became lodged in the weir.

The work is taking longer than expected, but TVA is working to get the water back on as soon as possible.

If youโ€™re heading out, be aware of the low water conditions and keep an eye out for rising flows.
