Check out how DrPH graduate, Dr. Opal Frye-Clark, is putting her dissertation into action by developing a collaborative community-driven company.

Dr. Opal Frye-Clark is the Clinical and Community Liaison for ETSU Family Medicine and the Executive Director of Unity Housing, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending homelessness. With a master’s degree in Professional Communication and a doctorate in Public Health, Opal says the organization was conceived directly from her research while in the College of Public Health. She decided to put her dissertation into action by developing a collaborative community-driven company. Her favorite memories as a student are personal; she met her spouse-to-be. Although she works at ETSU, Dr. Frye-Clark and her family enjoy coming to campus for football games, Broadway performances, and art exhibits. Check out our pictures from our Bali Study Abroad Program. Students met with public health faculty and their Dean and participated in presentations about health, ethics, and disability and universal learning design.
This study abroad opportunity is a collaborative effort with the Clemmer College of Education and Human Development and the College of Public Health. We are partnering with Udayana University and the Anak Unik school for children with disabilities in Bali, Indonesia. The Center for Global Engagement provided scholarship support for the students.
