This week, East Tennessee State University is celebrating Dolly Parton. They're calling it "For the Love of Dolly: A Celebration of Life and Legacy".

Tuesday, September 22nd, at 6:30pm in the D.P. Culp Student Center Ballroom, I'll moderate a panel discussion on Parton's transformative impact on the arts, philanthropy and the economy.

Covering Dolly, I watched her grow uncomfortable with endless applause and adoration. She'd tolerate it, but only as long as it served a purpose. Then it was time to get to work, time to focus on her next big project and the people for whom she did it all - the people of her beloved East Tennessee.

I'm grateful to ETSU for advancing the conversation about Dolly beyond the well-deserved tributes into a discussion about what's next, about the work she began and who will carry on where she left off.
