As the University Archivist at ETSU, Kyle Johnson draws from his degree in History and Appalachian Studies quite often, citing his class in “Introduction to Historical Methods.” He uses the skills and professional philosophies he learned as an undergraduate every day in his profession, such as historical research and analysis, knowledge preservation, and storytelling. Kyle initially chose and attended another university, but transferred to ETSU and was able to get what he deems a world-class education. His advice for current students is to start thinking about the legacy you will leave for future generations—the experiences and memories you make will become important to the university. He and his wife, Ashley (’24), live in Jonesborough, TN with their two dogs and five cats. Johnson enjoys spending time in the garden with his dogs, cooking, and touring distilleries.
