🔴 Making a Life-Changing Impact: Inside the American Red Cross 🔴
Our BIG group had the absolute privilege of hosting Dawn Day from the American Red Cross today! Dawn gave us an incredibly eye-opening overview of the massive footprint the Red Cross has—not just on a national scale, but right here locally in our own area.
It is easy to forget how much they do behind the scenes until disaster strikes. The Red Cross responds to a disaster every 10 minutes, and the vast majority of those are home fires.
Locally and nationwide, they are on the ground providing immediate comfort, finding safe places for families to stay, purchasing food and clothing, and helping them navigate the emotional and financial road to recovery.
Here are a few powerful takeaways from Dawn's presentation that really blew us away:
Driven by Volunteers: An incredible 90% of the Red Cross workforce is made up of volunteers, and 90¢ of every single dollar spent goes directly to delivering care.
Life-Saving Prevention: Through their Sound the Alarm campaign, they have installed over 3.2 million free smoke alarms, helped families create over 1.1 million escape plans, and saved at least 2,500 lives.
Preparedness & Training: They empower everyday heroes by training millions of people last year alone in vital, lifesaving skills like First Aid, CPR, AED use, and swim safety.
Disaster Relief & Support: From delivering warm meals and financial assistance during major crises to collecting over 13,000 blood donations daily and providing vital emergency communications for military members and veterans, their reach is truly boundless.
With the frequency of billion-dollar disasters rising and the time between events shrinking, the challenges disaster survivors face today are greater than ever. We are so grateful to Dawn for sharing how we can get involved—whether through hosting blood drives, joining a Disaster Action Team, or scheduling a preparedness session for our own businesses.
