Last year, we provided free food and music to around 350 people, and we would like to invite you and your organization to participate in this community event as we expand on last year's success. We aim to promote community organizing and mutual aid, and to bring attention to the issues that face the people of Appalachia. We are organizing this year's BBQ under the coalition banner of E.A.T.S. (Eve
ryone Acting Together in Solidarity). Anyone who is in solidarity with our basic aims is invited to participate in planning and to attend the BBQ. We recognize your organization's commitment to social, economic, and/or environmental justice, and we hope to promote your organization's aims by offering a space for tabling, organizing, education, and discussion. The event should provide a public forum for a broad range of causes. Our main focus for the event is simple: feeding people. Helping our community by eliminating hunger, was and is our original purpose. We also believe that having strong, healthy communities means promoting a healthy environment, working to end racism and other forms of prejudice, and ensuring that basic human needs are met. One basic thing that many people need is a decent job with a living wage. This year, we have chosen to highlight the growing movement of low-wage workers for a living wage. Whether it be the call to organize the corporate giants of the fast food and retail industries or on our college campuses, we support the living wage as a step toward ending hunger and a way to build respect and dignity in our communities. Where: Old Kiwanis Park (off Market St)
When: Sept. 14th
Time: 1-5 pm
Please join us! Together we can build community bonds, strengthen democracy, and feed our neighbors while connecting with local residents and allies. For those interested in community building and want to volunteer help to help promote the BBQ or are looking to donate please message us via this page. Best regards,
on behalf of E.A.T.S!
