At Huschka House, we aim to provide support to our residents in different ways. From budgeting and cooking to job readiness, emotional wellness, and daily living skills, our program equips residents with the life skills they need to confidently step into adulthood. These skills are facilitated by our volunteers and interns. With the fall semester less than a week a way we will be welcoming some new interns, celebrating residents starting their college careers, and supporting our residents in the workforce.
Stay tuned for updates on their journeys!

She wasn't a resident anymore. Steve stayed anyway.

When Brooke first moved into Huschka House, she had an abscessed tooth in the back of her mouth that needed a root canal and crown. But that was just the start β€” years of neglected dental care meant she had extensive work ahead of her.

Brooke moved out before treatment was finished. For a lot of organizations, that would be the end of the story. Not for Steve.

He kept showing up. He got her connected with Friends In Need to help make ongoing care possible, and he's stayed with her through appointment after appointment β€” even though she was no longer a resident, even though it would've been easy to consider it "not our problem anymore."

Yesterday, Brooke finally got her crown β€” and one more reason to smile.

This is what it looks like when we mean it: Every Youth Deserves a Home β€” and the people who care about them don't stop caring just because an address changes. πŸ’™

Huge thanks to Friends In Need Health Center for partnering with us to make this possible, and to Steve McKinney for proving that follow-through is love in action.

We're planning to celebrate a resident's next step - their very own housing! πŸŽ‰

To help furnish their new home, we're looking for a full-size futon. If you have one you'd be willing to donateβ€”or know where we could find one at a low costβ€”we'd love to hear from you.

Every contribution helps make this exciting milestone possible. Please text the number below or send us a message if you can help. Thank you for supporting our residents on their journey to independence! πŸ’™

Facebook doesn't make it easy for nonprofits to know when or who donates through its platform β€” and it doesn't provide a way to thank all donors directly. We've recently discovered we have some wonderful supporters we never properly acknowledged. πŸ’™

If you've ever donated to Huschka House through a Facebook fundraiser or birthday campaign β€” THANK YOU. Every single dollar goes directly toward supporting young people who've aged out of foster care as they build independent lives.

To everyone who gave β€” you know who you are, even if we were slow to find out. We're grateful beyond words. 🏠✨

πŸ’› A huge thank-you to Johnson City Morning Rotary for their incredibly generous donation of 10 Food City gift cards β€” $250 worth of groceries headed straight to our newest residents!

One of the first things we do when someone moves into Huschka House is take them on a real grocery shopping trip β€” not just to stock the basics, but to make sure they have the foods they grew up with, the things that feel like home. For young people who've spent years in the foster care system, that moment of standing in a grocery store and choosing what goes in their own cart is something most of us take for granted.

Your gift cards make that possible β€” and they make it meaningful.

Thank you, Johnson City Morning Rotary, for seeing our youth and investing in their fresh start. πŸ πŸ›’

On Saturday, June 6th, we opened our doors β€” both of them β€” and you showed up. πŸ’™

Our 5-year Celebration Open House was everything we hoped it would be and more. We were overwhelmed by the warmth, encouragement, and generous support from our community. Seeing so many familiar faces β€” and meeting some new ones β€” reminded us exactly why we do this work every day.

To everyone who came out, toured the homes, met our residents, and cheered us on: thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

If you weren't able to make it, we would love for you to see what your support makes possible. We'd be happy to schedule a personal tour β€” email us and we'll set something up!
