On Saturday, October 24, Johns Creek Rotary and Daffodils4Hope joined forces to plant 1,000 daffodil bulbs around the Peace Pole that was dedicated a couple of weeks ago at Emory Johns Creek Hospital. Thank you to all that showed up from both organizations and a special thank you to Marilyn Margolis and Emory Johns Creek for providing the space in front of the Winship Cancer Center at the hospital. Make a point of visiting the spot in March to see the spectacular show that 1,000 daffodils will bring to the Peace Pole area.

Peace Pole Dedication at Emory Johns Creek

Thank you to everyone from Johns Creek and Johns Creek North Fulton Rotary Clubs who joined us on a perfect fall day for the dedication of a new Peace Pole on September 21st, the United Nations International Day of Peace.

The pole is one of more than an estimated 200,000 Peace Poles throughout the world. The pole has the wording "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in the eight languages most commonly spoken in our area. Its home was generously provided by Emory Johns Creek Hospital, with special thanks to Marilyn Margolis for making it happen.

The International Day of Peace is celebrated in almost every country of the world and is devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. If you weren't able to join us last week, you can visit the Peace Pole at any time. It stands in a perfect location outside of the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory Johns Creek Hospital.

Join us a little later in the year when, thanks to the generosity of Daffodils 4 Hope, we plan on planting 1,000 daffodils around the pole. A date will be published here soon. Daffodils are considered a symbol of cancer survivorship.

Rotary and its GPEI partners celebrate a monumental achievement, say global eradication of wild polio is possible with the continued dedication and persistence of Rotarians.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on 25 August announced that transmission of the wild poliovirus has officially been stopped in all 47 countries of its African region. This is a historic and vital step toward global eradication of polio, which is Rotaryโ€™s top priority.

After decades of hard won gains in the region, Rotary and its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) โ€” WHO, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UNICEF, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Gavi, the vaccine alliance โ€” are proclaiming the milestone an achievement in public health. They offer it as proof that strong commitment, coordination, and perseverance can rid the world of polio.

Club member Dr Bowns delivering $1200 check to The Place of Forsyth to help replenish their food pantry shelves. The club has not been meeting in person so we took the unspent money budgeted for our club lunches and we are giving it to food pantries in the area.

Due to the Corona Virus situation and until further notice, we are unable to meet in person. Therefore, we have been using Zoom to have virtual meetings. As Rotarians, we love to gather and join in a sense of community (even if we have to resort to virtual community ๐Ÿ˜†). If you are not currently a member of Rotary but are interested in Rotary, please message us and we will find a way to get you any information you may need. We can coordinate you joining by Zoom with us or at one of our in-person meetings once those start back up. In the meantime, stay safe and take care. Rotary International Rotary District 6910
