.:: WIGO IN ‘THE CREEK’ ::.

Our city’s last council meeting was packed full with agenda items, policy updates and an interesting staff change at City Hall.

In a much whispered about move, City Manager, Mr. Ed Densmore, appointed (following a nationwide search) Attorney Ron Bennett, Jr to 2nd assistant city manager.

While the City of Johns Creek does, in fact, already have an assistant CM, Bennett’s role is reported to have a particularly narrow focus: Macedonia Cemetery.

As the preservation of Macedonia Cemetery is IJC’s board-led initiative of focus, members of the organization find the news of Bennett’s appointment to be paradoxical giving particular concern to a potential conflict of interest.

All are said to be hopeful—watchful, yet hopeful for a fair and judicious approach to the work of preservation and transparency where the families (descendants of the departed) are concerned.

Filming for ‘Blood in the Land of Milk and Honey’ continues.

Sunday, February 18th, 2023, Sabrina Aquil brought the descendants of the decedents buried at Macedonia Cemetery together for ceremony, fellowship and the sharing of their history.

Nicole Washington, IMPACT JOHNS CREEK president was present as well as Joan Compton of the Johns Creek Historical Society.

Meet Mr. Kirk Canaday: Johns Creek resident and unceasing champion of preservation efforts for the departed yet seeking rest at Macedonia Cemetery in here in Johns Creek, GA.

The video below is an excerpt from a documentary production Impact Johns Creek cofounder and president-elect, Devon Dabney, which seeks to both profile Mr. Canaday and his efforts as well as provide recognition and voice to the descendants of those who are buried at Macedonia.
