The City of Jesup, the Jesup Downtown Revitalization Committee, and the Buchanan County Economic Development Commission are asking residents, business owners, employees, students, property owners, and visitors to help shape the future of Downtown Jesup by completing a short community survey.
The survey is part of Jesup's Downtown Assessment, which will be conducted September 2, 3, and 4, 2026, by a five-person team from the Iowa Economic Development Authority's Iowa Downtown Resource Center. The team will review Downtown Jesup's strengths, challenges, and opportunities and develop practical recommendations to support future revitalization efforts.
Community feedback is a critical part of the assessment. The survey asks participants what they value about downtown, what could be improved, and what they would like to see in the future. Responses will help the assessment team identify priorities related to local businesses, downtown investment, walkability, public spaces, community events, building improvements, and the overall downtown experience.
You do not need to own a downtown business to participate. Anyone who lives, works, shops, dines, attends events, or visits Jesup has a valuable perspective. The survey takes only a few minutes, and every response will help create a more complete picture of the community's needs and goals.

The Iowa Downtown Resource Center will be in Jesup September 2–4, 2026, to conduct a Downtown Assessment. This process will help identify downtown’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities and provide recommendations for future revitalization efforts.

The more feedback we receive, the better the assessment team can understand what is working well and where improvements are needed.

What an amazing day!
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make RAGBRAI in Jesup such a success. We couldn't have done it without our incredible committee members, volunteers, pie makers, vendors, Thomas James, Jesup Mat Club, Jesup EMS, Jesup Police Department, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, Mercy One Mobile Medical Unit, and the entire RAGBRAI team.

We also wanted to address a question we've received regarding the Jesup exit closure. Neither the Jesup RAGBRAI Committee, Jesup Police Department, and Buchanan County Sheriff's Office were aware that the exit would be closed; as we understand it the closure itself was directed and managed by the Iowa State Patrol.
