Why do we want them to:
Hike miles in extreme weather?
Get cut, bruised, and gritty working on vehicles?
Get their hands up close to the fire and cook?
Get uncomfortably dirty, sweaty, and bug bitten for a couple of days?

Because we want to make hard men. Men who are not tossed by the wind and the waves. Men who stand with Christ though all the world be against them. We want GODLY MEN.

"So that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. " -Ephesians 4:14

Can your son cook for himself? Can he cook for his family? How about for 150 people?

Our Trailmen, whether 7 years old or 17, are learning to take care of themselves and others.
From starting the fire to cleaning the dishes our boys do the heavy lifting at every campout.

At the last regional campout, our Troop prepared a breakfast for all of the attendees. The trailmen of Troop Ga-1689 set tables and chairs the day before, woke up at 5:30am, prepared the meal, served their fellow campers, and stayed to clean up. I am very proud of our young men!

May they continue to be an embodiment of the verse:

"And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 22:39

First General Orders of General Washington on July 4, 1775 :

The General most earnestly requires, and expects, a due observance of those articles of war, established for the Government of the army, which forbid profane cursing, swearing and drunkeness; And in like manner requires and expects, of all Officers, and Soldiers, not engaged on actual duty, a punctual attendance on divine Service, to implore the blessings of heaven upon the means used for our safety and defence.

Our youngest Trailmen (ages 5-8), or Swampies as we call them, had a blast last year. They practiced flint and steel fire making, proper flag folding, marksmenship, and used their Ranger for first aid training. Named after the famous Swamp Fox, Francis Marion, the Swamp Patrol led the way on many grand adventures.

Swampies know their yell: Aim Small!

30 miles in the day and 17 at night. In the mountains or the marshes, through rain or flood, in the heat of the Georgia sun or middle of the moonless night these young men carried on. These are the miles our boys hiked last year and we will continue this trend in the next.

May this lead our young men to cry out like David:

"For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God?—the God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless." - Psalm 18:31-32
