Last weekend during a celebration, a young person tragically lost their life to gun violence.

On March 20 & 21 we convenedThe Remix, a Youth Safety and Advocacy Convening where young people led the conversation on what safety truly looks and feels like to them. We were honored to highlight and partner with organizations and individuals already doing the work of Community Violence Intervention (CVI)—including the Circle of Safety, a network of 70+ organizations committed to prevention, healing, and protection. Our guest trainers from have historically used youth leadership to establish the country’s first ever office of your safety.

The organizations we worked with .o.p.e.hustlers are tagged—follow them to stay connected to ongoing work to address this important work, which is rooted locally and extends statewide, because safety is a collective responsibility.

Meet the trainers of The Remix!

This weekend, we’re excited to welcome Erica Perry and Mike Floss of — organizers, cultural workers, and movement leaders building power in the South. Friday, we’ll host a meet-and-greet documentary screening for Erica and Mike with local justice workers. Saturday, they’ll guide us through strategy, culture, and collective imagination rooted in real‑world movement work. Swipe to learn more about our facilitators and what they’ll be bringing into the space.

Throughout the weekend, we’ll host screenings of SMC’s mini-documentary highlighting their co-governance, participatory budgeting and community violence intervention wins through the Varsity Spending Plan.

A few spots are still available — we’re prioritizing youth voices to join us in learning, creating, and building together.

Parents and adults are welcome too! We’ll host a separate session on Saturday morning for caregivers and community members interested in learning how to get engaged in protecting our children’s education, in partnership with and .

JGA Wrapped 💫 | 2025 in the field

From Jesup, Statesboro, Brunswick, to Savannah, this year was about showing up—listening, learning, and moving with our communities. We were on the ground doing fieldwork, gathering real-time data, and offering tools of intervention against state-sanctioned violence and harm across the Southeast. Here is a snapshot of some of the work we did!

🍕 Slices of Love Pizza Party — as students headed back to school, we partnered with the Mediation Center a space rooted in care and joy while conducting live-action polling and research on what helps kids feel safe at school and in their communities.

🗣️ Savannah — we gathered live data from young people about what safety looks like in their neighborhoods and also partnered with the DEEP Center in a community lead barbershop, talk about what is working and what resources they believe are missing or needed to thrive.

🏛️ Statesboro — we hosted a community town hall and officially launched our Community Needs Assessment where residents and local stakeholders were able to speak openly about their lived experiences. This moment marked an important step toward data that is community-led, people-powered, and rooted in lived truth.

🏀 Ball 4 Noah Basketball Tournament — a day filled with love, movement, and remembrance as we honored Noah by playing his favorite sport. Grateful for our partners The Mediation Center and Kate’s Club for showing up with additional resources.

The rest of these moments capture our field visits across Statesboro, Brunswick, and Savannah—each stop a reminder that data + community care = power.

Thank you to every young person, family, partner, and organizer who made this year possible. We’re excited to continue this work in 2026! ✊🏾❤️

Five years ago today, Ahmaud Arbery’s life was taken at the hands of state-sanctioned violence. We take this opportunity to honor to him and the ongoing history of resilience that continues to be demonstrated. Let us continue to unite in this mission, inspired by the resilience of those who have come before us and motivated by the promise of a more just future.
