Although it is rare, men can get breast cancer. About 1 out of every 100 breast cancers diagnosed in the United States is found in a man. The most common kinds of breast cancer in men are Invasive ductal carcinoma and Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early, and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams, and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms. Mammograms are the best method to detect breast cancer early, when it is easier to treat. A mammogram can often detect a lump two years before it can be felt. It is recommend to learn more about breast self examination to increase chances for early detection.

Breast cancer treatment in the United States can be extremely expensive, even for those who have health insurance. In 2019, people paid higher out-of-pocket costs for breast cancer care than they did for any other type of cancer care — a total of $3.14 billion.

Disparities in socioeconomic status are associated with an increased prevalence of risk factors for cancer and other diseases, along with reduced access to comprehensive, timely cancer prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment, primarily due to insufficient health insurance coverage. The Baltimore City Cancer Program (BCCP) offers high quality, no-cost services to those without insurance or anyone in need of additional support in metropolitan Baltimore. This community-based program within the UM Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center is based in West Baltimore at:

Today is 🗳 and it is a great day to check your personal voter registration, remind your friends and family to register, and text or call your friends in swing states to remind them as well.

You can visit vote.org to get started and to see the registartion deadline for your state.

Make a plan to vote, and if you are able to do so, vote early!

Also, if your teenager will be 18 by Election Day, but not by the registration deadline, they can still register to vote!
