Jerseyville Public Library

Jerseyville Public Library This is where you can find all the awesome things happening at your local Library in Jerseyville, Illinois! We've got a little something for everybody.

We are part of the Illinois Heartland Library System with access to over 9.5 million items to loan. A little history of your library. The Jerseyville Public Library is located at 105 North Liberty Street, Jerseyville, IL. The Library provides free services to all residents living within the city boundaries with services available to all others for an annual fee per household which is based on what

those in the city pay in taxes. The Jerseyville Public Library has served the needs of Jerseyville and Jersey County residents since it was established in 1894. The Library moved into its Carnegie facility in 1904. As Jersey County grew and library usage went up, in 1965 the Library joined the Lewis & Clark Library System. This made many additional materials available for patrons through interlibrary loan. In 1986, with the assistance of a Build Illinois State grant, Federal Revenue Sharing, and a local fund drive, a major expansion of the Jerseyville Public Library was undertaken and when complete in 1987, the Library more than doubled its size. The expansion and renovation allowed the entire building to become handicap accessible. In 1991, the Library automated and joined the Lewis & Clark consortia, Gatenet, which, on July 1, 2012, merged with three other library systems in Illinois: Lincoln Trail, Rolling Prairie, and Shawnee, together known as the Illinois Heartland Library System. As a result, the new library system merged each library's Local Library System Automation Program (LLSAP) to form SHARE. SHARE encompasses more than 427 libraries throughout the southern half of Illinois with over 1,600,000 patrons and nearly 10,000,000 items! Our friendly and professional staff is eager to serve you. Welcome to the Jerseyville Public Library!

We had a smashing good time at yesterday's Summer Reading Program event for grades K-5! In the Egg Drop Challenge, participants designed and built their own protective basket for their raw egg, and then tested it out by dropping their creation from a second-story window of the library to see if their egg survived. Take a peek at the process...

The planets aligned (literally) for a great time at our star party last night! 🌟✨

As Venus and Jupiter appeared together in the evening sky, we gathered at Wock Lake for an unforgettable night of stargazing, learning, and discovery with our local NASA Space Ambassador. From spotting planets and constellations through telescopes to sharing the wonder of the cosmos with friends and neighbors, it was a stellar evening for all ages.

Check out these highlights from the evening.📸🌙
