✨ Ron & Guillermo ✨ We aren’t sure a picture has ever better encapsulated a duo. Senior, retired street kitties living the dream in their long term foster. Na, they won’t be your best friend, but they will provide endless entertainment and silliness, something we could all use right now.

‼️UPDATE ON GOOSE KILLINGS AT LIBERTY HARBOR MARINA ‼️ We are saddened to hear about another alleged killing of an adult father goose.

Witnesses have been looking after two parents with one gosling. When the family ventured into the marina area, the father goose was dead a few minutes later. Workers bagged the goose, discarded in a pile of trash and walked away. Police, DEP, Animal Control and APL all called by witnesses. A second police report was filed for animal cruelty. JCPD and ACC retrieved the body which is currently being examined.

What can you do? Call the prosecutor’s office per the request of Animal Protection League.

✨ Chester ✨ The foster said the following re the questionable quality of Chester photos: “He’s too busy head butting to pose” 😹😹 10-ish, friendly, loves everyone and everything. Fill out an adoption app today, link in bio.

So, we have a bit of a problem. No one is stepping up to adopt. We have a super friendly like Chester with no interest. His foster can’t keep him much longer. What are we supposed to do? Please network this sweet, retired street cat.

We have a JC colony in part managed by one of the board members. Five have been brought inside in their golden years (one lives with her!). And… right when it’s nice and under control… new unfixed cats are dumped. We need a space for this babe, Dylan. She was dumped, she’s not fixed, and now there’s a ANOTHER NEW unfixed tomcat sniffing around. We will address him after if he sticks around, but Dylan has been in the ‘hood for a bit and it’s her time. She’s a bit of a scaredy cat but no aggression, we’d love to see how she does once she’s no longer in survival mode in a foreign place. All she needs is a safe and quiet place to recover from her spay, and to assess her needs/personality. If you have an extra room/space, it’s truly the easiest job out there. Please help. We do not have a holding space. We rely on the community to step up.

✨GRACE + CHARLIE ✨Our current trapping projects. These two cuties are living in different construction sites, both dangerous settings full of equipment and trucks. Both Grace and Charlie were dumped in these locations and without help from humans, would live only on mice. We believe both cats came from a home at one point.

The first cat who is trapped has a wonderful foster lined up. We are still looking for a second foster home. Would you like to foster either Grace or Charlie? We are looking for someone in the Jersey City/NYC area. If interested please send us a pm!!

🆘 FROM ANIMAL PROTECTION LEAGUE NJ: UPDATE ON GOOSE KILLED AT LIBERTY HARBOR MARINA 🆘

NOTE: This incident is being handled by local and state animal rights and advocacy groups. The goal is to hold individuals without a permit accountable, as well as educating on how to handle, respect and live alongside wildlife.

A key witness who filed a report, is a respectable resident of Jersey City, and a volunteer for wildlife organizations.

The witness knew the goose family well and left the family sitting together shortly before the incident happened at the Morris Canal, LIBERTY HARBOR Marina. After the witness saw the goose’s bloody body, she asked the worker what happened, and his response was “the goose attacked me, so I beat and killed it”. He strangled the goose with his bare hands.

The worker has now changed his story from “I beat and killed him” to “the goose hit a power line.” An investigation is underway, as his revised story is not possible.

Parents with two day old goslings DO NOT leave the family. The two parents stay and forage on the ground or in the water with the goslings until they are 10-12 weeks old.

Geese molt during the time of raising young goslings and is unable to FLY.

The mother goose is now alone with one remaining gosling. Both parents are vital for raising goslings, and without a father, the chances for survival are slim. The mother goose continues to return to where her mate was brutally killed. Geese mate for life. This will have a devastating effect on the mother goose and her gosling.

Photos of the dead male goose have been sent to rehabbers across the state, as well as bird experts. The consensus is the same, head trauma and strangulation. Injuries as seen in the photo are NOT consistent with injuries from hitting a power line.

✨ Hey! Don’t forget about Saba and Amelia! ✨ Amelia (cutie ginger) was saved from one of the worst hoarding situations we’ve seen in Jersey City. She lived with many, many, many other cats, and was picked on relentlessly and bullied out of food on the regular. Needless to say, when she was rescued, she was extremely shut down, shy, and reserved. It was hard to break her out of her shell. But little did we know, all she needed was her beloved Saba. Saba was roaming the streets of Newark, too friendly for her own good, so she thankfully got scooped up, placed in the same foster, and let us tell you… Amelia became a BRAND NEW CAT. These two are so bonded, and so wonderful. Adopting these two? No brainer.

‼️UPDATE: A huge thank you to everyone for helping to bring this act of cruelty to the surface. It has been a difficult task to find and contact the correct officials, but we ARE making daily progress. Please see ways the public can help! ‼️

1. Demand workers at the Liberty Harbor Marina are educated on how to properly work alongside wildlife, to hold the worker accountable for killing the goose, and to keep other geese safe (protected under the Migratory Act).

2. Email [email protected]

3. Email Mayor Solomon’s office at [email protected]

To everyone who tries hard to protect wildlife, and for the mourning mama goose and her 3 goslings (who appears to have been taken in by another family), we kindly thank you for all the help.

TIPS FOR NESTING GEESE:

🪿Keep a safe distance of at least 30 feet from parents with goslings. They are very protective for 10-12 weeks.

🪿Do not provoke or try to run them away.

🪿Geese ONLY fly towards someone if they feel threatened. 99% of the time the person doesn’t listen to the first signs (hissing, walking towards with head down low).

🪿If you suddenly find yourself in a confrontation, simply stand tall, stay calm and slowly back away.

🪿Keep children and pets away from families and stay the correct distance if taking photos.

‼️UPDATE: A huge thank you to everyone for helping to bring this act of cruelty to the surface. It has been a difficult to find and contact the correct officials, but we ARE making daily progress. Please see NEW post on ways the public can help! ‼️

🆘 HELP IN DOWNTOWN JERSEY CITY 🆘 We are heartbroken to share a Liberty Harbor Marina worker murdered a male goose today with his bare hands. The new father of 3 goslings (born yesterday) was with his mate when the worker came too close to the babies. Witnesses watched the worker (see photo of the man in blue on a bulldozer) provoke the goose and then killed him right there in the parking lot and in front of his mate.

LOCATION: JERSEY CITY SIDE OF THE MORRIS CANAL (across from LSP). We are not giving the exact address for safety of the other families trying to raise their newborns in peace. We also have a mourning mother goose who watched her mate be killed at the hands of a human.

Geese are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. It is against the law to harm, injure or kill wildlife.

We are at a loss of next steps for keeping the other families who are nesting nearby safe, and are asking for the public’s help.

We should note the JCPD sent witnesses to Animal Control and they’ve been very helpful. It sounds as if we need a humane law enforcement officer to help with filing a report.

The geese are very close to Liberty State Park and should be able to raise their goslings in a safe environment. All this man had to do was WALK AWAY.

Out of respect, we will not post the graphic photos but have the info if needed.

Thank you for any help, advice or referrals. Please pm us with any info.

✨CHESTER✨ How can you resist this beautiful grayby?

Chester is a loveable senior, former resident of the streets now full time indoor lummox! Like most seniors who have done time outside, he’s got a few minor ailments like a wonky leg, but gets on with both dogs and other cats so is perfect for pretty much any home situation.

The PAD PAWS crew ❤️’s a janky senior and Chester is no exception!
