🗣️ Conversations like this really matter. And for us at The Waterfront Project, the conversation ultimately has to lead somewhere. It has to lead to real changes so that we can maintain the fabric of our community and provide a path forward. We invite you to become part of that work. Every day, our attorneys, housing counselors, and advocates work with families in Hudson County who are trying to remain safely housed. We provide these services free of charge because access to justice should not depend on what someone can afford.

Why Evicted?

WFP chose Evicted for our first book club because its story is deeply connected to the work we do every day.

Desmond's book explores eviction, housing instability, poverty, and the people whose lives are affected when they lose their homes. While the book focuses on Milwaukee, the issues it raises are not limited to one city.

We see these same housing challenges in our own communities.

At The Waterfront Project, we work with individuals and families facing eviction, foreclosure, housing instability, and other barriers to safe and stable housing. Evicted gives us an opportunity to step back, look at these issues from another perspective, and have a thoughtful conversation about what it means to have, and to lose, a place to call home.

And you don't have to have finished the book to join us. Whether you've read every page, just started, or simply want to learn more, you're welcome to be part of the conversation.

Laughter truly is the best medicine 🧡

A huge thank you to Ha Ha Harvest Comedy Fest for selecting our organization to benefit for the Vaguely Literary Comedy Show! It was beautiful seeing the community come together on a rainy night for laughs and inspiration. We are so grateful.

Thank you to WORD Bookstores for having us and being a part of our community. Support local businesses, authors, and bookstores! 📚

Thank you to the entire lineup of the show, all the comedians and authors! Thank you for the laughs, for sharing your talents, and for sharing your stories with all of us. You all make it look so effortless! 🎭

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came! We hope you had a great time and we would love to do this again! We appreciate all of your support and bringing the community together. Because of you, we raised $1,054 together for our organization and to keep fighting for housing justice in Hudson County 🏠

Columbia Bank Foundation invests in housing counseling at The Waterfront Project!

We’re pleased to welcome the Columbia Bank Foundation as a new funder of The Waterfront Project’s Housing Counseling program, with a $5,000 grant that is helping families stay in their homes.
 
Our Housing Counseling program supports tenants facing eviction and landlord abuses, and homeowners facing foreclosure. Our counselors help people understand their rights and options, work through the process, and connect to the resources that can keep them housed. Losing a home is one of the most destabilizing things a family can go through, and early, knowledge helps to keep families housed.
 
That makes this gift especially timely. With HUD Housing Counseling cut from the federal budget, community-based programs like ours are being asked to do the same work with less. Local partners who step in matter enormously right now.
 
Columbia Bank’s commitment goes well beyond this grant. The bank is also partnering with WFP on financial education and was a generous supporter of our gala. We’re grateful for a partner who shows up in so many ways.
