Tomorrow marks the 30th year that the city honors Jersey City veterans at Pershing Field Park. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial honors those that died in action, and also the Hidden Casualties – those that carried the wounds and weight of their sacrifice, and died in the years to come. One of those hidden casualties was David Cline (1947-2007), a veteran and local leader known for advocating against the wars in Vietnam and Iraq. He once noted that these memorials are veterans memorials, not war memorials. "If these deaths are not to be in vain" he said, "we must remember them and learn the lessons of those wars. That is our responsibility. If we don't do it, who will?"
