Ogden's End Community Garden

Ogden's End Community Garden Ogden's End is 100% volunteer run. Cruz General Construction and Palisade Wine and Liquors. who first adopted the lot in 2012.

We couldn't do it without our sponsors: the Riverview Neighborhood Association, Farms in the Heights, The City of Jersey City, SK Landscaping and Design, A.B. Ogden’s End is situated at the corner of Cuneo Place and Ogden Avenue in the Heights section of Jersey City. Once an illegal dumping ground for construction and household waste, the land is now undergoing a vibrant rebirth as a community gar

den and public space. The effort is being led by two local non-profits: The Riverview Neighborhood Association and Farms in the Heights Inc. Ogden's End consists of four distinct garden areas. The first is a flowering perennial garden. Visitors can relax and enjoy a breathtaking view of dozens of flowering plants plus the world-class mural "Pronkstilleven" painted by street artist Gaia. The second area is an organic food garden. Featuring ten raised beds, there are no private plots and all crops are grown communally and shared with volunteers. The third section is a living herb wall that runs across the property. Visitors are encouraged to take regular clippings home and make suggestions as to which herbs they wish to see planted. And lastly, the southernmost section of the garden is a nursery with 15 varieties of local trees. These will eventually be transplanted througout Janet Moore and Riverview Parks. Our vision is for truly open and inviting urban space. The gate is never locked throughout the spring, summer and fall and we encourage all community residents to enjoy the garden. The work being done is extensive and all our laborers are all volunteers. Whether you can donate your time, your money or your resources, we would be honored if you could join us in our endeavor.

Our first garden maintenance day of the year was a great success! We took down some unhealthy and overgrown trees, pruned roses and shrubs, transplanted, reorganized, and enjoyed some early spring flowering bulbs.

Thanks to all who came out to help!

Come join us this Sunday 3/22 for a pre-season volunteer maintenance day in the garden! 💪🏻🪚🪓

We will be cleaning up some damaged trees and plants from the winter of heavy snow and doing other prep work for the gardening season. You can expect chainsaws, irrigation trench repair, compost turning, and other physical labor so we could use some extra helping hands.

Our official garden opening day and regular volunteer hours will start in May, and keep an eye out for volunteer opportunities before that since it’s almost time to plant early season crops!

Are you curious about the color changing tea from our last reel? This magic trick was a result of the butterfly pea flower.

We grew this tropical vine in the garden and harvested a nice yield this year. Its dark blue flowers are used culinarily and also for natural dyes. When acidic lemon juice is added, the color changes from blue to pink.
