York Street Project York Street Project uses innovative programs to shelter, feed, educate and promote the healing of women and their children. St.

The York Street Project is a one-stop network of programs:

St. Mary's Residence: Affordable housing and support for working women with limited income. The Nurturing Place: A year-round licensed early childhood development center for children aged 4 months to 6 years whose mothers are at work or school. Joseph's Home: A safe and structured living environment for single mothers and their children t

hat guides and supports them as they transition to new independent lives. Working with nearly 300 women and children each year, we are proud that this network of support enables 75% of our families to leave our Home and begin their journey to a new life of independence. This is made possible by the generosity of so many who provide cash or product donations, volunteer on-site, sponsor a field trip for our students, or spread the word. ONE WEEK from today, York Street between Washington St. and Greene St. becomes Evening Under the Stars.

The evening brings together all-you-can-eat food, drinks, live music, neighbors, local businesses, and community for one of our favorite nights of the year.

A few food and beverage highlights this year include eggplant and zucchini lasagna from Light Horse Tavern, crispy chicken poblano and Plant Power salads from Just Salad, mini chopped cheese sandwiches and chicken tinga tacos from Speedy’s JC, sorullos from La Bodega, and desserts from Greyston Bakery.

If you have been to Evening Under the Stars before, you know the feeling.

York Street closes to traffic. Music plays outside. Delicious bites are served. Familiar faces return, new neighbors join, and the night feels like Jersey City showing up for Jersey City.

This year, we are looking back at photos from Evening Under the Stars in 2013 and getting ready to bring that same energy back to York Street.

The June 4 event includes small bites from across Hudson County, drinks, desserts, live music, and a food lineup featuring returning favorites and new partners.

Yesterday, you helped change a family’s story.

York Street Project raised $33,027 from 111 donors during Hudson Gives and finished 7th overall out of 96 participating organizations.

To everyone who donated, shared a post, tagged us, forwarded an email, texted a friend, or sent encouragement late into the night: thank you.

That support helps provide housing, childcare, workforce development, and wraparound services for women and families building long-term stability and independence.

And we are not done yet. Donations remain open through May 21 at 11:59 pm for anyone who missed yesterday or still wants to be part of this effort.
