Here’s a little piece of Jersey City dance history. ❤️

In 2012, Judith Elins, Founder of Jersey City Ballet, and Jaime Gong , Founder of Performing Arts Workshop, both took their entrepreneurial first steps right here in Jersey City, at Grassroots Community Space.

Their paths have crossed many times since. In 2016, JCB invited PAW dancers to join a holiday performance, giving their students an early opportunity to share the stage. Since then, they’ve continued on their own paths, building organizations they believe in while always maintaining a genuine respect and appreciation for each other’s work.

Because they understand what it takes to build something from the ground up — the passion, sacrifice and perseverance — and what it takes to keep it growing, evolving and true to its mission.

They’ve always wanted to see each other succeed. And now, as both organizations look ahead to the 2026–27 season, it feels especially meaningful to find new ways to come together and celebrate the history they share.

We’re excited to see where this next chapter leads.

JCB × PAW at CENTERED.

Stay tuned. ✨

We are thrilled to announce that Jersey City Ballet faculty member Simon Kazantsev has been appointed Associate Director

Simon's journey in ballet began in Russia, where he graduated from the world-renowned Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow after completing its prestigious eight-year training program. He went on to dance with the Stanislavsky Ballet, performing internationally in solo roles in classics including Giselle, Swan Lake, La Esmeralda, Le Corsaire, and The Nutcracker, while also earning a Bachelor's degree in Pedagogy and Dance from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy College.

Since moving to the United States in 2003 to join Boston Ballet, Simon has dedicated himself to inspiring the next generation of dancers through his exceptional teaching and mentorship.

As Associate Director, Simon will help lead our artistic vision, mentor our dancers, contribute to programming, and continue developing our youth programs. We are incredibly fortunate to have his experience, artistry, and passion helping shape the future of our organization.

Please join us in congratulating Simon on this exciting new role! 🩰🎉
