Friends,
Food Not Bombs cares deeply about the homeless and hungry in Jersey City and throughout the world. Our sharing events at Journal Square every Sunday are a celebration of fairness and compassion. Activists and friends cook and eat together and talk and listen to music and to each other. We have been building this community of nonviolence and kindness for years, rarely ever missing a Sunday meal. It makes a difference, for people, for the homeless, for Jersey City, for the world, for peace.
We regret that this unbelievable and tragic COVID-19 crisis has made it so that our sharing of food at Journal Square - in any form - would do more harm than good. Food Not Bombs activists will stay home this Sunday. 😓
Our network is seeking safe ways of having food and supplies delivered to our homeless friends who are staying in local shelters. We thank our community of supporters, whose donations make it possible for us to pivot like this, especially Balance Hair Salon J.C and Crazy & The Brains.
Many of us are also turning to our electronic devices to continue our social justice work. We are reaching out to those in need through phone calls and texts, making online donations, shining a light on the needs and vulnerabilities of the poor, counseling those who give in to hoarding and selfishness, and exposing the greed of powerful people and institutions who profit while others suffer.’.
But above all, Food Not Bombs volunteers continue to have a tremendous for a better future, one in which simple things like sharing food and caring for one another is the norm, not the exception. Peace is possible. Compassion begets prosperity. We believe this better world can begin right here in Jersey City with each and everyone of you.
Peace,
FNB ✌️
