Community pride was on full display at our June 14 Neighborhood Cleanup! 🧹🌳

Neighbors came together to pick up litter, beautify our streets, and make a visible difference in Journal Square.

A special thank you to WHEALTH KITCHEN and the Journal Square SID (Journal Square, Jersey City )for supporting all three of our cleanups this year. Their continued commitment to community engagement and neighborhood stewardship has been instrumental to the success of these events.

Special shoutouts to Council Aide Arjumand Juweria, who has participated in all three of our neighborhood cleanups this year, and to Ward C Councilman Ward C Councilman Tom Zuppa for his continued support of JSQCA and our community initiatives.

And a YUUUGE shoutout to the volunteers who showed up, rolled up their sleeves, and got to work. Community improvement doesn’t happen by accident - it happens because neighbors are willing to give their time and energy to make a difference.

Thank you for helping build a cleaner, stronger JSQ!

What could the proposed Van Keuren Waste Facility mean for Jersey City?

Join the New Jersey Environmental Justice Alliance, Barrow Mansion and the Bergen Arches Preservation Coalition for a screening of The Sacrifice Zone followed by a community discussion on the environmental justice issues facing our city.

The proposed facility could process up to 750 tons of waste per day in an area that already experiences significant industrial activity and truck traffic. The project has generated widespread concern among residents, community organizations, and elected officials.

JSQCA is strongly opposed to the proposed facility and recently submitted a letter to local and state elected officials urging opposition to the project.

Whether you’re hearing about the issue for the first time or have been following it closely, this is a valuable opportunity to get informed, ask questions, and engage with others who care about the future of Jersey City.

📅 Tuesday, June 23
⏰ 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

The Journal Square Community Association formally submitted its opposition letter regarding the proposed waste transfer facility at 25 Van Keuren Avenue.

In the letter, we call on the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to deny any permit or approval for the facility, urges reform of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority’s oversight structure, and advocates for future land uses that better serve our community, including green space, affordable housing, and other public benefits.

We look forward to continuing to work with our elected officials, community partners, and residents to ensure that the voices of those most impacted by this proposal are heard throughout the decision-making process.

The public comment period has been extended, providing additional time for residents to submit their comments to NJDEP. If you have not already done so, PLEASE make your voice heard. The link to submit comments can be found in our bio.

Public participation matters. Every comment submitted becomes part of the public record and helps demonstrate the level of community concern surrounding this proposal. The more residents who engage in the process, the stronger the message that our community’s health, safety, and quality of life must be protected.

This issue is far from over. Please stay informed, stay engaged, and encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to submit comments as well.
