Hope, healing & self-love are always where we set our sights at IFC.

IFC2023 will close with a musical number by Sacred Lotus, "She's My Best Friend."

In this song, singer/guitarist performs an ode to a mysterious girl who's always been there for her -- only to discover true love and friendship has been inside her all along.

Sacred Lotus (she/her | IFC debut!) is a LatinX singer-songwriter from Elmhurst, N.Y. She earned a scholarship to Juilliard becoming a classically trained violinist at the age of 16. She also suffered from an early age with her mental health. She uses music and poetry to express her inner most vulnerable thoughts & feelings. Jessica has an eclectic taste in music & combines her unique voice to take you on a sonic journey through her mind. She now uses her disabilities as super powers and dedicates her passion to empower other artist with disabilities by turning her scars into stars.

What started out as a tiny Women's History Month show has grown into an award-winning arts org serving ~350 artists around the world. 🥰

And after 3 years of pandemic limbo, I can't believe we are finally coming back in person with the seventh season of our mainstage show! I cannot wait for our new cast to join the ranks of these beautiful humans~

Please join us 10/13 or 10/14 at the Barrow Mansion in Jersey City to see 10 women and femmes of color sharing poems, stories & songs -- it's a unique experience you won't find on stages anywhere else, & one that make you laugh, cry & feel like no other.

Super grateful today for all the hardworking people making it possible -- our board, our cast, our crew and our community partners. Getting the support of the Jersey City Arts & Culture Trust Fund has also been pivotal.

I know it's also JC Art Week and our visual arts lovers will be buzzing about the city -- but please, build in some time to join us for this show while you're bouncing between exhibits Downtown. It'll be a transformative experience & will also uplift so many JC/NJ/NY artists.

NJ is a state of immigrants, tracing their roots back through other towns, states & countries. And in rapidly gentrifying Jersey City, watching the new push out the old is a lesson in compulsory nostalgia.

In "Maria's Audacious Dream (Ode to Washington Heights)," looks back on growing up in the Washington Heights and wonders where else her family's American Dream will take her and her children.

Lisa “Rubi G.” Ventura (she/her) is a Washington Heights bred Black Dominican poet, essayist, teaching artist, and author of ¿Con qué papel me envuelves la luna? A VONA 2022 alumni and featured poet for Morris-Jumel Mansion, she’s been published by Dominican Writers, The Economic Hardship Reporting Program with Slate, among others. Interviewed for The Nation’s Going for Broke podcast/documentary series and Refinery29, Lisa’s work has been showcased by various arts organizations. Learn more about her here.

In losing her grandmother, R.sen the Poet gained new knowledge about herself.

If you're a big fan of Kendra Augustin & her transcendent imagination, you're in for a treat with her IFC stage debut!

will be bringing her punny poem-monologue "Bleu Cheese" to life. If your love life is cheesy and also makes you feel a lil bleu, this piece is ripe for you....

Kendra (she/her | The Nest Play Development Series: Death in the Family, That One Comedy Night) is a playwright, budding filmmaker, and a retired sketch comedy writer. Her play, Sisterhood in the Time of the Apocalypse, has been developed via The Bechdel Group's "The Bechdel Test - it's a damn low bar" residency, The Playground Experiment 's Required Reading series, and was first performed as a short play at The Fire This Time Festival in Season 10.

Recently, she was one of the four writers who were part of The Fire This Time Festival's New Works Lab Cycle 5 (2022-2023) where she developed a new full length play. Her anthology play, Death in the Family was produced by In Full Color and Dixon Place at Dixon Place in 2021.

When you see injustice all around you, what do you do?

GOODW.Y.N.'s IFC debut piece, "Cries of my Mighty Soul," was inspired by present, past & future oppression. Looking at the disparities rising around the country, she challenges us to question the authorities at hand and make way for those who are willing to fight in the name of justice.

GOODW.Y.N. (she/they | IFC debut!) is an Interdisciplinary Artist, who lives and works in East Harlem, New York City. Earning her MFA in 2022, in Digital and Interdisciplinary Arts Practice, GOODW.Y.N.'s creations come from the idea that everybody can create art given the right space, motivation and nurturing.
