FREE PSAT 8/9 Virtual Tutoring Program!

ASCEND Academy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is launching a Pilot PSAT 8/9 Program in partnership with Jersey City Free Public Library. This free initiative is designed to help students strengthen their skills in PSAT 8/9 Math and English, as well as explore introductory coding and app/web development.

This program will run in two sessions:

* Session 1 from August 23 to September 2
* Session 2 from October 4 to November 2.

Each session includes 10 virtual lessons over 5 weeks.

The first 30 students who register will be chosen for Session 1 and Session 2.

The meeting timing of the sessions will be determined between the tutors and the learners.

Good news for families wrangling with the high school admissions process! Former PTP co-chair Jane Urry has started a high school admissions consulting business!

High school is different in Jersey City, and the application process is SOMETHING ELSE. Five different school systems–and the applications are all different! Deadlines, one right after another! So many programs–and no high school offers them all! The most important thing we learned is that it’s a long game. The choices your family makes for high school will significantly affect options for college.

Jane is a certified project manager (PMP). With her help, you’ll submit complete applications, stay ahead of deadlines, and learn about “hidden gem” high schools, programs, and opportunities that will set your child up for college. Get in touch at [email protected]!

We are grateful to have Jane Urry, our previous PTP President, join us at the Parents As Partners Conference. Thank you for extending the initial invitation and demonstrating the value of participating in district-wide initiatives. Due to Jane Urry's efforts, Academy 1 parents are among the first to receive information. We appreciate her dedication and guidance. Please do not hesitate to reach out to her for guidance or to express gratitude for her ongoing contributions to our school and alumni. Although we postponed Teacher Appreciation Week due to NJSLA, our gratitude for the dedication and perseverance of our teaching staff and support personnel remains unwavering.
