PSALM 147:11
The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.
AUTHOR OF PSALM 147:11
Ancient Jews knew these five Psalms as a group which they called the "praise collection." Authorship of these is not known with any certainty - remotely possible that it could have been David... probably not. Some scholars have attributed 147-148 to Haggai and Zechariah, though there is no solid evidence to do so.
VERSE THOUGHTS-COMMENTARY PSALM 147:11
But God's delight in us doesn't just come when we fear Him, we need to have an expectation of His love for us. The Living Bible says it beautifully: “But his joy is in those who reverence him, those who expect him to be loving and kind.” Take delight in the Lord, and remember He is delighting in you!
With a filial and godly fear; that serve and worship him, privately and publicly, with reverence and love: as, appears by the goodness he lays up for them; the good things he communicates to them; the discoveries of his love, covenant, and grace, they have from him; the guard he sets about them; his eye of providence and grace over them; and his heart full of love, pity, and compassion to them; see (Psalms 33:18); in those that hope in his mercy;
not general, but special; not in the absolute mercy of God, but as displayed in Christ; and great encouragement there is to hope in it, from the plenty of it in his heart, from the instances of it among men, and from the blessings of grace and salvation that spring from it: and in such the Lord takes pleasure; hope is his own grace, and mercy is his delight; and he is pleased with those that exercise hope upon it: not that the graces of fear and hope, and the exercise of them, are the cause and motives of God's delight in his people, which, as they were considered in Christ, was before the world was, or those graces were in them; but these describe and point out the persons who are openly and manifestly the objects of his delight and pleasure. Plutarch F18, an, Heathen writer, seems to have been acquainted with this and (Psalms 147:10), and to refer to them, when he says,
``it is somewhere said, that God is not a lover of horses, nor of birds, but of men, and desires to dwell with those that are eminently good; nor does he refuse nor despise the familiar converse of a man divine and wise.''
PRAYER
“Lord Almighty, thank You for Your divine mercy. You are the great Healer, healing the hearts, minds and wounds of all Your people. While we may not understand Your mysterious ways and workings, we ask not to understand all things — but for a deepened virtue of humility; revering all Your ways. AMEN
BLESSINGS & PRAYERS – The Lord takes pleasure in us, we bring Him Joy. God sees us as a blessing, not a burden. God delights in YOU, on a good day or in a bad day. He loves YOU, just as YOU are. Live in that love today. Thank you Lord, for loving us first. Amen.
UKRAINE 653 DAYS: Fighting
• Russia launched a swarm of Iranian-designed attack drones, damaging port infrastructure in Ukraine’s southern Odesa region and killing one civilian. The Ukrainian air force said it destroyed 15 of the 18 Shahed drones. The attack was the first on the Danube ports since November 21.
• Ukraine urged residents to save electricity after Russia shelled a thermal power plant near the front line causing serious damage as temperatures plunge below freezing. The energy ministry, which did not name the plant, said two of its power units stopped working, leading to a “temporary shortage of electricity” in the grid.
• United Nations officials told the Security Council in New York that intensifying Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities were worsening humanitarian conditions across the country. Assistant Secretary-General Miroslav Jenca said Russia must stop its attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure that are “prohibited under international humanitarian law” while Ramesh Rajasingham, the UN humanitarian coordinator, said “the deaths, injuries and level of destruction of vital civilian infrastructure is staggering”.
• Russia began using smaller attack groups with the backing of armoured vehicles and air cover in its long-running effort to capture Ukraine’s eastern town of Avdiivka, Ukrainian officials said. In its Thursday evening update, Ukraine’s General Staff said its forces had rebuffed 15 attacks in Avdiivka and nearby villages, after reporting 34 attacks in its morning bulletin.
• Russia’s FSB security service said it had arrested a Belarusian man it accused of blowing up two trains in Siberia last month allegedly as part of a sabotage campaign conducted by the Ukrainian intelligence services.
Israel & Gaza Conflict: Poet, professor and writer, Refaat Alareer killed in Israeli strike - Israeli air strikes on Gaza have killed renowned Palestinian writer, poet, and professor Refaat Alareer and six members of his family. In his writing, Alareer captured the stories of a resilient community and advocated for the rights of Palestinians. His students and colleagues spoke to Al Jazeera about his legacy. Lets continue asking, in the name of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, for these wars to end. Please join me in prayers. Thank you, Lord. Amen
PICTURE: “Ana Marie Bethea” - I remember when I found Annmarie her apartment. She was homeless after spending so much time in the hospital. Her landlord threw all her stuff to the side of the street. She was overwhelmed with pain. Pictures and property that had such great memories and value. I could not understand how someone could be so cruel. But, with all her pain Annmarie said, “can’t blame her she waited enough for me to come up with my portion of the rent.”
When Freeholder William O’Dea guided me and connected me with others, we found a basement apartment (she was too weak to climb) and he send his crew to put together the furniture. I went to pick up Annmarie’s son Tre and gave him his key.. I could see his face unbelieving this is really happening. The family was going to have their own home again. Annmarie was still in the hospital. But when she came home, she called me and cried. Only, God Almighty guided Freeholder O’Dea and myself to get this apartment together. Dan from United Way donated most of the money for her apartment. Everything was new. Pat Patel gifted Annmarie a recliner, Zeba Fatima gifted her a new dinning table with chairs and other items for her kitchen. I gave her linens and dishes, cups, towels. Starting a home with all new items. Bill send Chico, and another gentleman to put the furniture together. All driven by the Love of God.
My heart was singing to the Lord in gratefulness. I am now trying to see if we can keep this apartment for the kids, or will they be homeless next. Lord, help me, as you have always done. Amen. Please donate $5.00. I ask not a penny more, or please say a prayer with faith, it’s worth more than all the money in the world. Amen.
