As our nation commemorates Memorial Day this year, we take a moment to honor the nearly one million service members who made the ultimate sacrifice “for love of country and family, preservation of peace, and defense of the American people” throughout our nation’s history, reflecting the high cost of those cherished American freedoms that so many take for granted.

We also remember the members of the Jersey City Fire Department that made the supreme sacrifice serving our great city. If you are in Jersey City today, in the area of Communipaw Ave. in the 4th Battalion, you may see the members of Rescue Co. 1 protecting our city. Happy Memorial Day.

The Jersey City Fire Foundation would like to thank A&L Disposal for their generous donation of a Harken Winch and Milwaukee Hole Hawg right-angle drill to Rescue Co. 1.

Jersey City currently has 23 high-rises over 500 feet tall. Many of these buildings contain blind shafts that require our specially trained rope technician firefighters to perform complex rope rescues. The Harken Winch will help make those operations safer and more efficient.

Thank you to A&L Disposal for supporting our firefighters and helping keep them safe.

Our heartfelt condolences are with the Schoch family, friends and all members of the Jersey City Fire Department, especially Engine Co.19, Ladder Co.8 and the Chiefs of the 2nd Battalion.
At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Battalion Chief Bryan Schoch to the Jersey City Fire Foundation. Your support will help continue the Foundation’s mission of supporting Jersey City firefighters with state-of-the-art equipment, and training. Chief Schoch's legacy will live on.
