Jersey City firefighters battled a rapidly spreading 3-alarm-plus fire on Franklin Street in the Heights section of the city on October 6, 2026.
Firefighters stretched multiple handlines to attack the fire, which had already extended into two buildings upon their arrival.

Older wood-frame dwellings can contribute to rapid fire spread, creating significant challenges for firefighters. Having the proper equipment, resources, and personnel is essential to achieving a rapid and effective extinguishment.

The Fire Foundation extends its sincere thanks to the Jersey City firefighters who responded to this challenging incident and wishes a speedy recovery to the two firefighters injured while battling the blaze.

Jersey City Firefighters from all four battalions battled this stubborn 4th alarm fire on Boyd Ave in the West Side section of the city on October 1, 2026. Firefighters acted quickly to get hose lines in place to extinguish and contain the fire from spreading to the rest of the attached row of homes.

Jersey City is a densely populated, older city with many attached wood-frame buildings, highlighting the ongoing need for our firefighters to have the best possible equipment.

Unfortunately, there was one fatality as a result of this fire. The Fire Foundation extends our deepest condolences to the loved ones affected by this tragic incident. .

The Jersey City Fire Foundation remembers all those who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001. In addition, all the firefighters, police offices and EMT'S that spent countless hours on the Jersey City Waterfront assisting those evacuating Manhattan. We continue to remember those that lost their lives to World Trade Center related illnesses and those that battle WTC ailments due to exposure to toxins at Ground Zero.

Happy Labor Day to all our friends and supporters. Labor Day was signed into law in 1894 by President Grover Cleveland, a New Jersey native. The American Federation of Labor and the Central Labor Union were both instrumental in getting the law enacted. These organizations created the modern day AFL-CIO.

The Jersey City Fire Foundation is proud to support Jersey City Fire Officers, IAFF Local 1064 and Jersey City Firefighters, IAFF Local 1066 with life saving equipment and training.

The Jersey City Fire Foundation sincerely thanks Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G)f or their generous donation of carbon monoxide meters and four gas meters.

These carbon monoxide meters are worn on our fire officers' radio straps ensuring the air is safe from carbon monoxide in every building we enter. The four-gas meters will be distributed to our engine, ladder, rescue and squad companies across the city.
