Operations-
"We should have a good turnout for our operating session on the 29th. The session begins around 10:00 AM and typically runs until about 2:00 PM, with a lunch break provided by OBMRC.
A little more information about how we operate: we like to keep our sessions simple, relaxed, and fun. We don't use car cards, manifests, or other detailed paperwork. Instead, we run approximately 4 to 5 local routes that originate from one of our yards. Along each route, crews switch industries by exchanging cars as needed.
We have routes suitable for beginners as well as some that require a bit more planning and switching work. Most assignments are handled by a two-person crew consisting of an engineer and a brakeman. The engineer operates the locomotive, while the brakeman handles switching duties, coupling and uncoupling cars, and navigating the industries along the route.
In addition to the local switching jobs, we also run mainline trains throughout the session. This helps keep everyone on their toes and gives those who prefer not to switch industries an opportunity to participate by operating through trains on the mainline.
Visitors are welcome to bring their own N Scale DCC locomotives, although the club and several members have locomotives available to borrow. For industry switching, we recommend either a single 4-axle locomotive, a pair of 4-axle locomotives, or a single 6-axle locomotive.
