In our line of work, we have the privilege of meeting amazing people. Some of those amazing people we are lucky enough to get close to. Last night our employees learned of the passing of our sweet Ruth. Ruth was a mother to us all. The hugs, laughs, tears and time we all shared with her changed us all. She loved us, adored all of us and often called us her babies.

Back in the summer we were on a retreat at the Beach. Several of our employees were present and all week they searched for specific gifts to bring home to her.

This past Christmas we made a box of treats she asked for, making her promise not to tell Roland that we snuck them in to her.

To say our hearts are shattered is an understatement. Our crew members have been burdened with heavy hearts today but we are comforted in knowing our sweet Ruth is now watching over us.

We would ask you to remember her family in the days, weeks and months ahead. They have been so good to us and our department. We thank them for sharing their mother, grandmother, and sister with us. Our hearts are bigger, our love stronger and our smiles wider because of Ms. Ruth Brown.

The next few days we plan to honor our unmatched friendship with Ruth and express our love to her family like she did to us.

Rest in Peace our Momma Ruth. We love you and will always remember the life lessons and love you taught us in our time together.

On friday, Jan 12, 2024 we responded to an accident involving a school bus and a coal truck. Neon EMS received the initial call and quickly identified the need for additional help. The staff of Neon EMS and Letcher EMS immediately activated every ambulance available in Letcher County. Additionally, ambulance services in surrounding counties were notified and asked for additional help to be ready if needed.
We are proud of the fact that our Letcher County EMS agencies were able to accommodate and care for our community in such a large magnitude.
The Letcher County Public Schools, Arlie Boggs Elementary, Whitesburg ARH, MCHC, Whitesburg Police Department, Whitesburg Fire Department, Cumberland River Fire Department, Kentucky State Police and Letcher County Sheriffs office all done a fantastic job caring for those we have pledged to serve.
Our prayers remain with the students, their families and the adults involved in the accident. We pray that the Lord will continue to hold these sweet children in the palm of his hand during the time of physical and mental healing they will experience.

We love our community and we are proud of the Letcher County agencies that showed up when the need was presented.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Wildcat Family.

As of 5:00 pm, highway 3408 is closed between the intersection of elk creek road and the 2.5 mile marker. Please find an alternate route. Be patient with us as we try to fight these forest fires.

Please adhere to the burn ban currently in affect. We have been on the scene of a forest fire this morning. With the weather forecasting wind and high temperatures today, we urge you to be very aware of your surroundings. DO NOT BURN during a burn ban!

The fire fighters in our area are working tirelessly to control these fires, we need your help in keeping everyone safe.

Our hearts are shattered by the loss of Joe Back. He has been a true public servant and dedicated member of the Fire and EMS services in Letcher County for many years. It is difficult to comprehend moving forward without him, but we know where he is. Heaven gained an amazing soul. Letcher County lost an amazing asset and a true friend. Rest in Peace our dear friend and brother. We will honor your public service and cherish your memory from now on.
