Childhood Diabetes Expense Relief Fund is a corporation located in Jennings, Louisiana, currently filing for Non-Profit 501(c)(3) status. Our goal is to meet the immediate financial needs of families facing the hardships that arise from having a child diagnosed with Type 1(Childhood) Diabetes. While there are many foundations in existence that do amazing work in the research and development field
by creating life saving equipment and medication to treat this disease, our goal is to assist with the urgent monetary needs that inevitably occur when dealing with T1D. While we are confident that there is an amazing cure in store for the future, our focus is to assist families in getting through the tough times until then. We have determined that the best method for providing assistance to those families facing hardship is to provide funds directly to the pharmacy, hospital, doctor or diabetes supply company requesting payment. In order to qualify for assistance, a family will be required to provide proof of full-time employment, at least one child having been diagnosed with Type 1(Childhood) Diabetes, and demonstrate a genuine need for help. Type 1 Diabetes is quickly becoming a life changing challenge for millions of Americans. Just imagine waking up one morning feeling ill, going to the doctor, then spending a week in a hospital learning that you will now, for the rest of your life, have to count every carbohydrate you take in, calculate the insulin required for that amount of carbohydrates, and inject yourself with said amount 3-4 times a day, not counting 4-6 finger sticks per day just to keep track of your blood sugar. Now just imagine that you are a child receiving this news or even the parent of that child. You can understand the heartache and struggle that comes with this disease. But on top of that, the financial burden that is immediately and unexpectedly thrust upon these families is sometimes too much to bear. We have been in this position ourselves. Insurance doesn't cover everything, and even when it does, the percentage you must pay out of pocket can be as much as a monthly mortgage payment or more. This is where we come in to help. With your donations and assistance we can directly affect the financial and health status of these families. A parent should never have to choose between paying for electricity, a mortgage or a water bill, versus paying for life saving medication. We want to make sure this never happens.
