The purpose is to provide supplemental financial assistance to Jemez Pueblo selected college students who attend any post-secondary educational institution. The Scholarship Fund is a response to the dreams of Jimmy Shendo who wanted to create a scholarship fund to help his people pursue higher education. Unfortunately, Jimmy was unable to catch his dream due to a fatal car crash he was in back in
2009. He was on his way back from Durango Colorado, after visiting friends and students at Fort Lewis College. He was a strong supporter and advocate for native students achieving higher education. His work at the University of New Mexico’s Native American Studies, Jemez Valley Public Schools and the local community of Jemez Pueblo brought him many opportunities to help students. Moiety Scholarship Fund is a way to connect Jimmy’s legacy that continues to work for his native people.
