I’m sittin’ here thinkin’ what would my dad do… He gained every veterans trust by their military experience… He comforted them, he gave them hope and most of all he restore the faith of those who thought they have been forgotten... My dad gave his all to Walatowa Veterans Association and he made things happen, we have all his accomplishments documented so if anyone ever questioned we have documents to prove and we have the veterans and their family who can vouch and speak on his behalf…
Yesterday we learned of an event where Walatowa Veterans were honored. To be honest since my dad passed I haven’t been on top of everything and events that are happening around… I was approached by a veteran who asked if my mother or I gave consent to use my Dad’s name to be printed on a t-shirt. I was like what shirt? That veteran had concern because no consent was given on their end and the name was printed… Then my mother and I were approached by 2 to other veterans about the event. Both vets stated that the tribal fitness workers who were handing out shirts were denying veterans shirts with their own name on it… Veterans said they were told by tribal fitness workers they are suppose to “earn” the shirt. WTF… this set me off the roof… REALLY? REALLY? EARN YOUR OWN VETERAN SHIRT WHEN YOU ALREADY HAVE DONE THE SERIVCE FOR OUR COUNTRY? WAS THAT NOT ENOUGH? SMFH… We had another phone call this morning from another concerned vet who witness a disagreement between a tribal worker and the tribal fitness worker about the shirts… Okay so it make sense for a civilian to earn by putting in miles but honestly I feel for the veterans...
My dad earned his trust with the veterans and along with that was my mom and I… The veterans know where to go for comfort and always knew my dad would take action… The past 2 days we have had several veterans come to us for comfort… All we can do is listen and so I sit here thinking what do I do with this info and concerns? Thank you for our freedom of speech I figured I’ll post and let it be known…
Honestly if my dad were to be alive he WOULD NOT HAVE “EARNED A SHIRT” he was a disabled Vietnam Marine Corp Veteran, he had a prosthetic leg how could he run 18 miles or be a part of team who would run the 18 miles…
It’s not about the damn T-Shirt… I am more concerned about the discrimination of a Veteran… Using their name without consent, because there are some veterans who are in healing and not ready for their name to be publish in public… We have veterans that have PTSD and with this simple denial and being told to earn could be a trigger point for them… I have to say you got to have balls telling a Veteran to earn it, after completing their service to the United States of America… Freedom is not free!
My name is Angela and I am the daughter of Tito Chinana… I take full responsibility for this post and contents… If you should disagree with anything I have to post feel free to confront me to my face and not behind my back… I am thankful for those who have served and currently serving in the United States Military… So thank a veteran and show appreciation for a simple gesture could bring comfort to their day!
